Hey, I didnt say anything about LIVING in San Diego. I was living in LA and needed out. My wife's job moved us up here and we took the opportunity to do so in a place that we thought might be good to raise a family in. As for my work. Sadly was on of the 10-12% of Californians that were laid off last year. Hardest thing right now is forcing myself to try and get back into the work force, being off for so long. Oh as for the golfing... yes it is great. San Diego actually has the most number of golf courses per capita in the whole of the United States. To bad I never picked up the game really. What I did like about SoCal though (which is something I have realized that I have really missed in the 5 months we have been in Portland) is that there is baseball year round down there.

Works for me. I will definitely get you the info on the new Honigs CP though.
-
Sorry, that was just funny!

I was in San Diego last year. Will have to check it out and see if I am there. Hopefully they do it again since I decided to move away from where the west coast clinic is at this year and wont be able to make it.

eating healthier, cutting down on the sodas, sugars and caffine. As for baseball. Working on my interaction with coaches and players, cutting back on the needless talking during down time and working on tracking and concentration during the game.

See, now thats just selfish. LOL just kidding and congrats. As for umpire related gifts. Got a $50 gift certificate to Honigs that will turn into a black long sleeve shirt and a navy long sleeve shirt. Was hoping to get something for my future phone call to Jim coming up in February but that will just have to be a gift to myself.

Chris still hasnt told us about the .7

Nothing this year in the Pacific NW sadly. However, from the sounds of it the training up here is pretty extensive so Im looking forward to it.

Personally, I would hold on to the shirts if I were you. Dalco's are pretty light and airy if I remember correctly. Something that you could definitely use during the summer months in the deep south I imagine.
-
Being in SoCal you also have the MLB Clinic at Compton College in LA. Its about $500 total I think if you have your own place to stay... maybe less. That usually happens some time in November (there is a link to it on the MLB site if your willing to try and look for it). Also there is a new NCAA camp that is starting next November in the Sacramento area called Black and Blue Umpire Camp or BBUC. If you want, PM me and I can try and send you the info.

OOOOHHHH!!!! This has got to be posted somewhere... Come one Warren, give it to us!

I think Brian and I were thinking the same way on #2. We both just looked at the statement as that F1 just does a pivot on his plant foot. In that case it would be a balk. I think you can see where the confusion came from.
-
James, the shirts you can still use (except for maybe the red). You might consider keeping those. Also the shoes are 450s not 995s. Just helping out.
-
You might want to give Jim a call. I thought I remember seeing the Gold come in multiple sizes. I wouldnt imagine that they ALL would be 12" long.
-
I didnt even think about that at all. Your right Brian... its starting to freak me out too.
-
Dont forget that he also must gain ground towards first on all the above moves or it is a balk.
-
NO! BAD KEVIN! BAD! Dont need a new pair of polys just yet... musn't think about new *DRROOOOLLLLL!!!!* new polywools.... mmmmmm! Doesnt the gold also come in a longer version? Will most definitely post my thoughts on the new CP at Honigs. Might even try it on and try and take a couple shots in the chest from my friends to see how it takes it compared to my gold.

As you know, I will be at the LA clinic in spirit. However I do know some of the guys that will be there and will tell them to stop by and have a look and that I sent them. Hopefully we can grind up some business here in the pacific NW for you. Some of the HS guys have been asking me and widac about you and we have, of course, said good things. Here is hoping that my pestering of you to come out to the west coast wont stop you from doing it next year. I promise to be at the 2011 clinic since its required to attend every two years. So and have fun. Enjoy the sun and get a tan for heavens sake. LOL

Is having a Driver's license a must when umpiring
BT_Blue replied to umpire08's topic in Off-Topic/Funny Stories
I, for the most part, agree with what has been said. When I was younger I would bike to my games. But those were also in town and close to me. I also know an umpire that I worked with in LA that would either hitch a ride with his partner or take public transit to his games. There were a couple times he cut it really close and once or twice I had to start a game by myself because the bus was running behind (usually a men's game and they understood.... if we started late they would still get their full time alotment). However, you have talked about working JuCo ball. I would say for anything above JV high school you should be able to drive yourself. Just make sure you leave yourself plenty of room to get to the game. If you are way early that is much better than being just a little late. -
Going to the Salem office for the first time since moving here on Saturday. Cant wait to look at the new CP.

Everybody wants this one for christmas...
BT_Blue replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Off-Topic/Funny Stories
Really? Seriously? Did the world need this? Im glad I read the warnings above so I didnt subject myself to this. I also didnt want to have to stay up all night with my knees curled up to my chin, sweating, rocking and saying to myself "it was only a bad dream, it was only a bad dream!":bang: -
I know the one I belonged to in SoCal did and Im guessing my new one here in Portland, OR will to. I say, if you can, take the test anyways. However, when it asks you where to send the results to, do not (I REPEAT DO NOT) send them to someone unsolicited. If you are not in their group and they get your test it could hurt you more than help you.

Though both of these are correct I dont think this is what he is looking for (for the record, the new UIC is in Idaho... but I dont know if there will be anything there in a long time). Umpire08, you can give it a try to get into the NCAA clinic in Dallas but I dont think it will do you much good as it is mainly an informational meeting. My recommendation would be to try and find out who the local contact is to start working Junior College, NAIA and D3 games in your area is. After that they should have training to help you further your career. Best of luck.
