Awe man, how could I forget about Dave. Though come to think of it, with me being AWOL from the site since my move in September and Dave being absent due to work, I havent seen much from him. Want to know whats scary? Is Im sure he has added more stuff to that list. However, word around the rainy campfire here in Portland is that he has hung it up... at least for HS. But he is still part of the HS unit so I am looking forward to being able to meet and shake the hand of the great Tim_C. I think he has become one of the evaluators for the HS and college units so that should be fun as well.:smachhead:

I was pretty sure that there were no more women in pro ball right now. (Anyone remember what happened to that all women pro team the Silver Bullets?) I have worked with some damn fine (and not just their looks guys... come on ) female umpires. Its always interesting to see how the coaches and fans handle be fact that there is a woman out there.

What is the closest you've come to hanging it up?
BT_Blue replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Free For All
Reading through this thread I have to agree with Steve the most in terms of my own thoughts of if I ever thought of hanging it up. Thanks to my wife I have been able to manage which games I take and what levels much better than before I met her. I wanted to hang it up or at least take some time off (heck I even went back to being a player for a year) because I had burnt myself out in prior to 2000. However, after taking three years away from umpiring and finding myself more and more wishing I was back on the field, I found a new association in LA. I signed up and having thought about getting out again since. Steve and Kyle had it right. You need to figure out your thresh-hold of games and levels you can work and stick to it. Also, keeping one self in good shape and healthy helps a lot too (now if only I can take my own advice on that one) -
Ok Chris. You started it, someone has to finish the story. I know you and I have never heard it. So what happened with the 0.7?:smachhead:

I have to agree with Brian here. Me personally, I just sit and wait. Its not my problem if some idiot doesnt know their job. If the catcher takes to long then its one and done. Besides, most of these kids just start throwing around with F5 anyways when they dont see the catcher out there. It just seems to come naturally to them to do it. Once again, its not our problem if little Jimmy doesnt get his 6 warmups in between innings when someone should come out and catch him unless it says in the book that he MUST get them and there is no time limit for it.

The NCAA DH rule would give it a pretty good run for its money. However I am not familiar with the nuances of 7.13 so I will just have to take your word for it.

Some of the people I want to see on this list are guys like Brian and some of the others that have been around a while. Another one I wish we could see (but he isnt on this forum) is Tim_C. I remember his list being a mile long on the old umpire.org page.

I worked with a lady down in Sydney, Aus. back in 2000. That was a lot of fun. 14-u game where one team all arrived seperately... in cars.... they drove themselves! We ended up only playing 2 innings as she ejected the head coach and both assistants, the catcher, the pitcher and someone else I cant remember. I got the shortstop. The final score had this same team losing something like 28-1. Also worked with a girl in the San Fernando Valley HS unit in LA and I know there is one in Long Beach and at least one in Orange County. Also know of at least three women that worked in MiLB but am not sure if any are still around (I know Pam Posten is out).

I like the idea. I just wish I didnt have these boats attached to my legs like I do.

Honestly also would not hurt to try and use some punctuation. Reading that post made the head ache I have even worse.
-
And never get off the computer... just like me.

Want to know what makes it worse? I forgot about this thread until now... however, for some reason or another, my HS unit used one of these videos as a teaching tool... and it scared the hell out of me so much that I decided to move! Well, that wasnt the exact reason, but its a good one none the less.

I rode you a little bit on the spelling crack but this time I agree with you. Some of these posts have been long dead and do not need to be resurrected just so someone can repeat the same info that has been posted in the last 10 pots.

Then don's be. And since we are talking about grammar the word c'mon should be come on. But honestly, does it really matter at all?

A. They dont work for ESPN B. They arent the local affiliate broadcasters

Awww man... you got my undies all in a bunch. I wanted to see that!

For the most part I agree that the fake mounds I have seen are round and slopped like a normal mound. However, this year I worked a Pony league that used softball fields for Mustang, Pinto and Bronco. So they had to nail in a false mound every game... this one was slopped like a normal mound upfront but had a dramatic falloff to the back and side.

Yes, you:BD:

So need to read this.

Havent we been through the topic of you and lingering effects before? In all seriousness... good to know you are ok...

I saw my first ever triple play this 4th of July. Ball lined up the middle right to F4, R2 gets hung up off of 2nd and F4 throws to first to double up R1. Was very exciting to see.
-
Im so in! Hopefully Ill hear back from Steve some time today... or heck I might just give him a ring.

You are lucky. I just worked my first playoff game for the HS unit in Long Beach last year but thats due to the guidelines for playoff being in the by-laws that you must have at least four years of HS experience with the last two being with the unit.
