Typically we have had very few ejection thru out the year. If there is an ejection at all we either have a director/board member present at the fields, we inform our assigner, or typically everyone knows about it before the end of the night. Normal suspensions are 1+1 unless umpire request more. If more is requested, the board will get together with a witness from the both teams, the offender, and the umpire and come to judge the suspension length. The one ejection I had this weekend, the director is informed, because the next tourney they are in is in another location the director of that tourney will be informed by me and the previous director to enforce suspension because it's under pony baseball. The only other ejection I have had where more than one game was requested was when a parent submit a complaint against an opposing coach, resulting in me speaking with the board and explaining why and how many games the coach is suspensed.

​I don't believe there is a restriction in OBR, but I felt the necessary thing to do was to just restrict the coach, tossing him would result in the team playing without a coach period, (AC was tossed previously) and he didn't do anything to me or say anything that I felt would require such.

​It was the end of the game and they were knocked out of the tourney with that loss.

We walk out to start the beginning of bracket play, we are running a 3-man crew (ran 2 in pool games) and the coach for the HT(which is home team to the our association) during plate meeting, says I've known the PU since he called my games when I was playing... the VT coach begins with the "oh no, y'all are homers?" we explained to him no we don't operate that way, we don't choose sides, we are here to officiate a baseball game. (Stupid HTC to making that comment) He goes on, just kidding, I know y'all wouldn't do that. Top of the 7th, VT 1 - HT 3, Bases Loaded, 1 out. Ground ball to F5, who then touches 3rd, and throws across to 1st and ball gets by F3. F3 picks up the ball and throws to F2 in attempt to retire R2. F2 drops the ball and PU calls R2 safe. F2 picks up the ball and throws to F4, who then tags BR attempting to advance, resulting in the 3rd out. Now the fun part. The VT believes the score is 3-3, they proceed onto the field to start warming up. HT believes the score is 3-2 and start to line up to shake hands. U2 calls us all together to discuss what we have. We go through the situation discuss every play and then decide the score is 3-3. We again stop and try to figure out what we are missing through this whole ordeal. We get the 'official scorebook' and begin to go through it all play by play. We then realize that VT scored R2, when he slid at home and F2 drops the ball, except R2 was out on the force @‌ 3rd. We then came to the conclusion that R1 had not scored before BR was tagged at 2nd, resulting in 3-2 game over. As soon as we turn to tell the VTC he starts yelling, "y'all are homers! I knew it when we walked on the field and saw 3 of y'all that it would be this way!!" I tried to get the coach to call down and let me explain what we have and why we have it, he walked off and didn't want to hear it. Afterwards, I walk towards the VT dugout to retrieve my water bottles, the VTAC stops me and politely ask for an explanation of what happened and why we ruled it that way. I went play by play, through the whole scenario with the coaches, explaining and verifying with them that they understand what happened. After explaining the assistant coaches goes, "okay that makes sense, we all counted the wrong run." We walked off without further issues. Always learning something new..

​I wasn't expecting the coach to do that but, I know for future reference to move to the grass.

Tonight's game. Pony sectionals bracket play. 2 outs runners on 3rd. Pass ball, catcher retrieves and tosses to pitcher covering. Runner slides. I see the tag and I walk around to verify he still has the ball, bang the kid out. HC comes out to argue and voice his opinion, I have no problem with it wasn't really animated. His assistant coach on the other hand came down and started yapping. I informed the head coach to restrain his coach and send him back to the dugout and away from me. AC mouths off, I turn around and toss him. He walks towards the dugout, then throws his hat at my feet, walks over picks up his hat, then proceeded to kick dirt all over me. He leaves. HC finishes his comments, I restrict him to the dugout and we finish the game. I can understand coaches disagreeing with umpires calls, but the hat throwing and kicking dirt is a little bit pushing it for 14 yr olds.. it's pushin for hs imo

I've heard this from other guys and I completely agree on it. Bang-Bang calls, are pretty much when arguments for the "tie goes to the runner, or fielder, blah blah" correct? We discussed it and say you have a fielder lays out and makes a beautiful play on the ball, turns and throws and its a whacker, give the fielder the benefit. Say you have a can of corn and the fielder bobbles it, boots it, or just flat out makes a routine play much harder, give the base runner the benefit. Anything in between, you use your best judgement. granted I know this is pure judgement and we should always make the calls to the best of our ability and be correct as much as possible, but just something that seems to work well for me. What do you think?

The other day, had a coach call time, walk to the baseline in foul territory, called his pitcher and catcher over and told them to stay in fair territory, spoke with them. I told him coach, that's a visit, might as well go to the mound instead of standing on the line. He tried to say that since he didn't cross the line you cant count it as a visit. Told him the fact that he called time and is speaking to his pitcher is the same as talking to the catcher and sending him to the mound to talk to the pitcher. just went to the dugout, next pitch ended the inning. I was correct on that right?

Anyone know what color trims for the us flags are recommended for each shirts? I have seen white trim on navy and black shirts, I have seen gold trim on navy, light blue, cream, and black shirts. which one do you prefer?

@grayhawk I was in the slot, inside fastball misses the batter and hit me on the left arm, not directly the elbow but on the front side.

I had one last night, catcher sets up outside on RH hitter. 2nd pitch of the game I took it off the left elbow. I had nothing but pain everything I went to brush the plate, pull my mask off, strike 3 punch out. Its been swollen since last night, soaked it for 15 mins last night.

Ties always go to the umpire!! I just tell coaches that if he really thinks it is a tie, then he just confirmed that I had the out correct. You're suppose to beat the ball, not meet it.

@‌VAUmp - I know I shouldn't have watched for interference, for whatever reason I was focused on that. @Rich Ives - R1 was 2 ft from 2nd base at the time the fielder went to throw to first. I saw the baserunner fall, but I wasn't 100% of what caused it, whether he tripped on the base, ran into the fielder, tripped over the pitcher or first baseman. I wasn't 100% sure, so I didn't rule anything but an 'out'. ​

Your right, it should be under war stories. Mt bad.

Yesterday afternoon, had 17U baseball, NFHS rules. I was BU. We had 3 plays, very interesting, all against the HT. All 3, all the HT coaches did was whine and complain instead of asking what we saw. First play, R1, no outs. Batter's his ground ball to F4 who tosses to F6, on the throw from F6 to F3, I see the runner is standing straight up and didn't do anything to slide or avoid the fielder, I took a second to think of what just happened then turned to first and banged BR out. I am sure BR beat the throw, but I was focused completely on what happened at 2nd, and that BR is out for interference. (I know I should have killed it immediately, once I knew it was INT at 2nd, and announced that I had INT on the runner and then called the BR out). AC and parents threw a fit, no shocking, but the HC, who was the 1BC, didn't say a word. Nothing ever was asked. Second play, R3, two outs. Batter hits a weak ground ball between 1st and 2nd. F3 fields it, runs to the base, F1 is also heading to the base, and I see F3 touch first and then the BR go to the ground. I never saw who the BR contacted so, I ruled on what I did know and that was F3 beat the BR to 1st. AC, who is now the 1BC, is yelling "that's obstruction, that's obstruction!" HC walks past PU, picks up the bat and goes to the dugout. AC looks at PU, PU "I didn't make the call". AC looks at me and says "you've gotta be kidding me" and then walks towards the dugout and complains that I have no idea what I am doing or no idea of what the rules are (under his breath). Later in the game, PU asked if I saw anything unusual on the play, I told him what I saw, but since HC didn't ask what I saw and requested I ask for help, I did nothing. He agreed that I did right. Third play, batter hits a ball that bounces 2 ft from home plate, and takes off to first. PU rules it fair, BR is retired, he turns and looks at PU, tells the coach it was foul and goes to the dugout. AC, looks down the line, shakes his head, under his breath "these guys are horrible". From what I can see this ball is clearly foul (we have no foul lines) but, I know if I had put a line from home plate to first base it would be about a foot in foul territory.

This was interesting. At first look, I was thinking INT, but then I started to wonder because he did lose possession of the ball. I believe had he been running in foul territory to begin with, there would be little to no contact, he would have had the opportunity to go around and beat him to the bag. Poor base running, poor defense, results in crazy play.

I always thought for the hidden ball trick, the pitcher cannot be anywhere in the dirt on the mound. In any level, OBR, NCAA, and NFHS. Interesting that OBR says he can't straddle or be on the rubber.

What is the possibility that PU had BI, but since R1 was technically out at 2nd, so BI is ignored. Then he goes and reviews the play, rules runner safe at 2nd, and forgot he had BI.

​When I originally watched the video, I thought they called the batter out for batter's interference, with the batter's reaction, but I never understood why because he never did anything to hinder the catcher. I didn't know they went and reviewed the play at 2nd.

Typically on catchers interference, the catcher will give a reaction whether it be he moves his gloves towards his body, or he'll be holding his hurt hand, and/or the glove will come off the catchers hand. I have not personally seen a catcher catch the ball on CI.
