Attended a clinic this weekend with live game evaluations. Had a former AAA umpire evaluate one of my games. Couple things that were new to me that I thought were pretty cool mechanics and thought I'd share. Bases loaded, infield in. Sharp GB to F5, play is coming home. I moved left (90- degrees to the throw) and that also puts me in line to see a RLV if F2 tried for the 5-2-3 DP. Post game evaluation, I was told go 3BLX. Reason being not only are you in better position if the throw is off line and turns into a tag play, you're also in a better spot to see F2's catch and transfer. You can always take a step after the play towards the line to get a look up the line for RLV. While discussing base mechanics, the evaluator talked about a mechanic I never heard before but thought was pretty cool. R2 only. Steal attempt. ball gets by F5 and R2 takes off for home. Ball is retrieved and there looks like there's going to be a play at the plate. As BU, bust out to foul line beyond 3rd base. If the throw home is good, and R2 reverses and heads back to 3rd you are in a great spot for a tag play back into 3rd, you're also lined up perfectly to box in the runner if a rundown occurs. Just remember it only works with R2 only when you have no other responsibilities as BU.
