This is one of the rule differences between OBR and Fed that I just don’t get the reasoning for this one.

I seem to recall others have tried these. I was always intrigued. Picked up a pair recently and I really like them. Two straps and almost zero weight. They stay in place. They are sparse around the ankle area but with the mid cut shoes I feel I’m fine. Picked them up for <$60. They aren’t F3 good but they are better than a lot of others IMO as the outer shell is off the interior shell/padding. My line of though is, If they will stop a puck, they will stop a ball. Took a couple hits in the four games. I like them and won’t hesitate to rock them anytime. I have used a F3 harness since I bought my last Douglas. You just need to swap over the buckles. I eventually upgraded to the t hooks. Sent only the bottom plate to Douglas along with $25. Best upgrade ever IMO. I’ll be wearing it on Monday.

I suppose these would be great if you used the scissors stance in a left handed batters only league.

I like the F3 and the old Wilson platinum. The Honigs K2010 are bulky and hot but also bomb proof. I need 15” so I’ve never tried the Douglas. I have the CP and wear it often. Along with @MadMaxi wish the pad took advantage of some of the technology there is out there.

Thanks. I have done it this way for 500+ plate games and haven't had any complaints from "the boys in charge" AKA lower management. They used to have some decision making authority but, as they have gotten older they have assumed more of a figure head role.

Compression shorts are the first layer, nutty buddy and jock strap are the second and tights over that.

I believe this is it. I took my TG to hardware store and went on the "3 Bears" approach. Too big, too small, just right. Bought two sets just in case.

I would have never chopped the Nike!!! The Adidas on the other hand might have met the hacksaw. Instead, I am going to send it to Tony to get it powder coated flat black and load it with TW tans.

@834k3r I actually read your post. My SG Shovel does not have snaps. It comes with nylock nuts and bolts. I changed them out to chicago style screws. The straps are really just nylon webbing 3/4" wide. If I needed a replacement strap to a Wilson that uses the straps and snaps the easiest and cheapest thing to do is just buy another. I usually have a spare in my bag just in case. For $10 it isn't worth my trouble. I have had them torn off by impact but, never break a snap.

These are 3/4” nylon. If these break, it’s beyond serious. The TG will break long before the straps fail.

I have always worn a 6”. Then I got a Nike TI and an Adidas Icon. The 6” was just not working with the existing frame extension and my CP. I start every game with and remove it by third inning. I was left with a few options 1. Go without one. Not a fan. 2. Chop the frame and incur the wrath of @MadMax 3. Sell it. I really like it. Thanks @Whosyourcaddy During a couple of MLB games last week I noticed the PU with Nike frames wearing a 4” TG. I know one of them was Ryan Additon on the Red Sox Yankees game Sunday. Today I picked up a 4” and I think that might be the ticket. At least it is something to fill the void and stop the direct impact.

I bought a used SG shovel from someone that cut the straps. I think that he maybe wanted to remove it and couldn’t figure out the nylock nuts and got frustrated. I made my own with a repurposed Diamond harness, a paperboard template and a soldering iron to make the holes. I stacked them on top of each other so the holes are in the exact same spots. That the key measurement. It’s not perfect but, it’s pretty good.

I would agree that some need an upgraded harness, if it doesn’t fit your body type, a harness won’t fix that. I never got any of the Wilson’s to fit. Always felt like I was wearing my dads jacket to the school dance. i do really like the AdamsSchutt. The All-Star Cobolt is really nice too. The Douglas has flaws but it fits in a niche. If you can find a S7 that’s a great rig.

Okay. A retiring umpire was getting rid of his gear and this was in the box. What do you fashionistas think of this. Previously, I had a SG shovel on it.

A lot of guys I know use parachute cord. 500lb test. The last set I bought were boot laces from Academy. They seemed to have aged well. PSO-I always have a spare set of mid cut length in my bag. Saved me and partners more than once.

It now my turn. Not sure when or how but I chipped the finish on my MAG4000. I used some silver Testors model paint from Hobby Lobby and a paper match to dab it on. It’s a little brighter that I thought it would be. It came out fine. I might add one more coat to really smooth it out.

I must say I do like the black S7 with the navy pads. I am not sure why but I do. Nice combo.

What is the difference between a Nike Steel and an Adidas steel? Besides a color I can’t use?

I bought one at the beginning of the season. I haven't really mastered the "no look" technique yet enough to trust it 100%. It does have some glare that can make it hard to read sometimes. I actually like the weight of it. I also like that it can be disassembled and cleaned.

Sounds like you have never been in the dugout of a 10U softball team. It can be like herding snakes with a stick some days. My guess is that the bottom third of the order all went to the restroom together. Lol. BTW I loved every second I coached those girls. They taught me a lot.
