runner placement after runner int on a batted ball
Lewis 88 replied to Lewis 88's question in Ask the Umpire
Yes sir that makes a lot of sense. I had it right but unfortunately so many people were saying I had it wrong I questioned myself and over thought it and let them change my decision. Thanks for the feedback. -
ok NFHS Rule set. Bases loaded R1 hit by batted ball second baseman had a play on it. Ok Runner out batter gets first but what about the other runners. My initial thought was R3 doesn't score, because I can't award the offensive team for their penalty. Partner was a young kid who had no idea unfortunately. After the batting coach and fielding coach getting together with us we decided R3 was forced to score and R2 would get 3b.Batter got 1b. I feel in my gut this was wrong but short of holding up the game to break out a rule book we went with that. Fielding coach says R3 would have scored on the play anyways so he was ok with him scoring. Does Rule set, or the amount of runners on base or the amount of outs matter in the ruling of this. Thanks guys for any input

Fans or coaches yelling out pitch Location
Lewis 88 replied to Lewis 88's question in Ask the Umpire
sounds good guys thanks for the advice -
I've had this happen twice this season both younger travel ball games. Coach yells out to batter watch out for the inside pitch. Same thing last night dad from behind the backstop watch out for the inside pitch just after the catcher slid over for the inside pitch. I've heard parents, and coaches yell out watch for the off speed or stay back, but this seems different. Am I overreacting here or is this against any actual rule, or is it an unwritten one against the code. I feel like 15U and up you're wearing one for something like this. For what it's worth I called time both times and just told the offender you can't do that and that was the end of it for both games.

We play on turf fields and sometimes they put these temporary fences in the out fields for the younger age groups. Last night I was doing 12u. Ball was hit I was solo behind the plate, I could have swore it bounced in the field and went over. visiting team is saying HR home team is saying GRD I get with both head coaches and ask them to be honest I know lol right. Home team says they didn't see it visiting team ask me to ask the CF he says it's bounced. I tell both coaches I'm going with my initial gut thought that it bounced they were cool about it surprisingly. This could have been really bad under different circumstances. My question anyone have a tip or a pointer to help me out on a ball like these in the future. I tried to get out on it but I thought it bounced. Thanks for any suggestions or pointers

Just second guessed it after the thought.

yeah that's all I was Looking for. I didn't rule anything. I was just wondering since the 2B got dinged up a little and he wasn't able to turn it if I had anything by an automatic rule.

Routine ground ball double play. NFHS Rule set. F4 flips to F6 who catches the ball on the bag closest to the first base side. R1 slides into second legally, right to the bag doesn't go through the bag because of contact with F6. I didn't feel like it was a late slide. he never altered his path or lifted his leg. Nothing malicious in my opinion, but there was a pretty good slide into F6's shin, and he didn't throw to first. Do I have a FPSR DP or just good hard old fashioned baseball. 15U kids also.

Thanks guys appreciate the knowledge

I understand the basics of what a time play is and when it occurs. The question I'm looking for is, at what moment, or action of time decides your decision. The actual tag of the runner or the physical out sign or sound. I had a bang bang one last night I went with the actual tag.

This should be offensive interference. And the batter would be called out. You are correct

On this topic can the base coach request time for the player, or must the player request for the time out. I do a lot of youth games and anytime there's a slide damn near, coach wants time and yells for it. I usually wait until the player asks for it. Is that the correct call or can a coach request it for the kid?
