If a routine baseball game took 3 hours the sport would have only been played on weekends for the first 35 years or so.

I did a wee bit of searching but nothing recent came up

I would think the soccer shin guard with a basketball players arm sleeve would be a nice combo while you healed. -
"upgrade" my indicator, fixup my plate shoes.
boyinr replied to ErichKeane's topic in Umpire Equipment
I would have used some soap and water, leather dye and if needed the Leather Luster treatment. I replace my shoes more often then most and I get about 200 games out of them. They still look typically look great but the midsoles start to break down. I have no problem finding someone to take them. -
IMO it will only change when there are consequences for the entire group. In this case, play the next bunch of games without anyone in the stands. Explain to everyone exactly why this is happening. Let the angry mob police itself. Peer pressure works two ways. If they don’t have individual self discipline maybe as a group they will find the desire to self police the undesirable actions of a few.

I replaced the stock bolts and lock nuts with Chicago screws on mine. I hope this doesn’t happen. Sorry it happened to you. However, if it stopped a ball from hitting your throat it’s an acceptable price to pay. You can’t be too disappointed when protective equipment fails doing its job.

Did it actually clear the fence or was it a dribbler up the third base line followed by a throw into RF, an overthrow at third snd a dead ball in the first base dugout?

SHE (Karen) probably sent him over to ask.

Always be on time. If you can’t be on time, be early.

Umpires followed to car, assaulted post game

It is a sad state of society that we may need to spend time in clinics on self defense training and divert the time away from rules and mechanics education. 🥺 -
@SJAYes. I had 2 TKR in 2020 (June and October) at age 57. Leading up to this I had 4 cartilage surgeries and tore the MCL and PCL on the right knee. I was "officially" bone on bone in 2015. I had loose cartilage in both knees at the time of replacement that 2 surgeons refused to clean out. They were a mess due to osteoarthrosis. In 2021, I umpired 155 games over a 7 month period doing as many as 4 90' games in day. I don't take any NSIAD or need to ice after games. I am more agile than I have been in 15 years. As @elares stated above, the value of prehab can not be overstated. For me it was indoor cycling. Additionally, it is important to be open with your PT to tell them what you want to do/where you want to be at the end. They are used to working with patients that have a lower activity level than a umpire. Please PM and we can set up a time to talk and I can give you more of what to expect, what you need to have and what to do.

Picked up a cobalt cp last week for the summer season. Today I happened to be near my local retailer and he had the cobalt shins in size 15. I couldn’t pass that up. Man are those light. I am not sure they are as protective as the F3 but they will surely take a load off the legs. More details to follow after a game or too.

Plate shoes - what level/age group do they become a necessity?
boyinr replied to Four Base Award's topic in Umpire Equipment
I don't wear any different/less equipment for a 11-12 game than I would for a high school varsity. I don't like taking the chance that I get hurt and have gear in my bag/trunk that could have avoided that. Buy good gear, make sure it fits and it is comfortable. Once you go a whole game without noticing it, you have found the sweet spot. In the lower levels you get hit more and it hurts less, in the higher levels you get hit less and it hurts more. -
Yes. He doesn't have ball in his foot when he steps on the base does he?

Another article about official/umpire abuse

low profile umpire chest protector shirt
boyinr replied to Aging_Arbiter's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
He must have a zero deductible ER visit rider in his health plan. I am sure I would not wear one of these shirts as a source of protection above machine pitch. -
So, uh.... how do you arrange your ball bag?
boyinr replied to ErichKeane's topic in Umpire Equipment
Balls only in the ball bags. Line up card holder and pen in the shirt pocket, plate brush in back pants pocket, indicator in the left font pocket when it’s not in my hand. -
Writing an article on officials being assaulted.

This ran in our local paper this weekend. Its well written https://apnews.com/article/covid-sports-health-youth-football-5db4156110f035c65bbcf3f5981dc576 -
Sweat dries, blood clots, pain is temporary and the scars tell the story.

For a very long. Those wear like iron.

Tony will turn it around really quick for you if that’s what you choose to do I left my FM25 mask on a folding chair and knocked it off on to the concrete. It was the second time I had worn it since Tony chopped it and powder coated it. I used some gloss black enamel model paint to touch it up. I used a little sand paper to feather the edges and a couple coats. No one knows but me and I have a hard time figuring out where it was dropped.

The replacement frame came today from All-Star and it is game ready once again. I like the color combination of the charcoal pads with the silver frame. I think this is going to nice on those really hot days. Thanks again to Brad Jurga.

Haven’t tried what is inside but the bottle says “this is made for baseball”. Cooperstown Distillery. I was looking for something special but bought this instead.

I seem to recall that the Nike/Adidas/Rawlings pads are vinyl on three sides and micro fiber on the inside. These might be worth trying. I think the Rawlings are available on Amazon. The label is removable.

Nope. If you take the ball out of play the defensive can’t get outs. Do the same with throwing the ball back to the pitcher from the outfield.
