Can the first baseman touch the base with his glove while holding the ball in his other bare hand and it still be considered an out.

This constitutes "secure possession" or "control". So, as long as there is secure possession of the ball – in either the glove or the hand – anything that touches the base is considered to have beaten the Runner there for a Force, Appeal, or Play at First Base.

Provided it is worn properly, yes.   Remember, typically a first baseman touches the base with their SHOE, not their foot.  Same principle applies.

 

Provided you are wearing it properly, as long as you're holding the ball, you can touch the base with the bill of your cap.

Oh God, I so want to see the argument that scenario would cause. F3 lying in the dirt, the bill of his hat only touching the base, arms by his side or anywhere not remotely close to the base.

Does his hat have to be worn properly on his head?  I mean, it can't be worn backward and have the bill touch the base to record the out, can it? and he can't pull the hat off in his hand and touch the base.  It has to be securely on his head with the bill toward his face....
