@Thunderheads I know for sure one of them was wearing Franklin gloves, but a quick search on their website turned up no other insulated gloves than those. Made me wonder why they would be wearing batting gloves, maybe they just really like the feel.

I suppose there are definitely warmer options, but the Franklin gloves look "cooler." Personal preference.

On an umpire?

Yeah, I think they look pretty good. They're not too flashy, not too bland. I like the look a lot. I can't speak to their warmth, however.

The one plus I think they have is they grip the indicator well. I don't know about the warmth they provide but I'm sure there are warmer gloves on the market. I'm just not a fan of the big logo across the back of the glove. Personal preference like you said.

I like the look of them, I also think that it was not below freezing at any point, so some super thermal insulated gloves might not have been completely necessary. Just my opinion, I would be interested in them. What gloves do you find more proper? @LittleBlue

I don't actually have a pair of gloves just for umpiring cause I'm the crazy one who doesn't really get effected by the cold (I wear a short sleeve shirt on plate and bases until it gets below freezing). The only time I worse gloves was last year in late October when the temp at game time was like 22°. I took them off a few innings later. I prefer an all black glove like I do an all black shoe. Personal preference I know!

Why would you want that much white on your gloves when all black options are available? Maybe it's just me.

When a pair (or several) are given to you, complementary, are you really going to refuse because they have a white logo on them? We all love free stuff.

In fact, the presence of white (or grey) should actually be increased on gloves. How often do we use our hands in umpiring? All the time! We're constantly giving signals and mechanics. We (attempt to) grab attention, convey information, and indicate intent or direction. With it being a late-in-season game, and a night game at that, we're likely already wearing black*, right? Annnnndddd you've got to relay to your partner, 110 feet away, that you've got a catch/no-catch, or the count, or the number of outs, etc. and you expect your partner to see that?

Me, I'd want gloves like this:

* - fine, fine, fiiiiiine... _some_ of you will still wear Navy.

If they're free I'll take them but they're not my cup of tea. I see the functional use in them though of letting your partner see what your calling. Ive never had trouble seeing what my partner is trying to relay like count or number of ours even when they have all black gloves.

I have the top pair that I wore during the winter doing security work... and I would wear them when I umpire early in the season

Make the style...Don't let the style make you. If every MLB Ump started wearing these people would think they are great...Lol.

Okay I'm a wimp about the cold (among other things :) ). I have several pairs of gloves I use depending on the situation.

I have an older version of the Manzella lightest gloves I've used for a more mild cold temperature they have the textured grip so you can still use your indicator, and yes I use them behind the plate too.

I have a heavier set of Manzella gloves for colder temps. They are too thick for me to effectively use an indicator with, so I ditch the indicator.

I strongly prefer cold temps to hot temps.
