I believe a crew chief challenge can only be initiated on homerun calls prior to the 7th inning.  This play occurred in the 4th.  This same situation happened in Boston to Vanover a week or so ago.

I'm glad they didn't/couldn't initiate a crew challenge. This is the price you pay for using your challenge early and losing. Choose more wisely next time.

The irony is this is the type of call that I most support having replay overturn. To me, the replay official should get to watch it once and if it is obviously the wrong call, overturn it. Otherwise, let the call on the field stand. If you're searching for angles and slowing things down frame-by-frame, that's too much. You want to get the egregiously bad calls out of the game if you can, but otherwise let the game flow as it always has.

What I'd like to see happen is something similar to what happened at the ICC Cricket World Cup earlier this year.

They've had replay for some time now, and the system is great. It lets us see exactly what the replay official is looking at by tapping into his feed, and also lets us hear exactly what he's relaying to the on-field official for the call. Obviously the fans in the stadium wouldn't be privy to this, but it would certainly make things much "cleaner" for the MLB.
