Looks like Bob had himself a night.  It still doesn't change the fact the I watch HIM umpire MLB games.  So, I will keep my comments/criticism to a minimum.

 

In real-time, however, it wasn't as definitive as super slo-mo.

Because we are suppose to do that.... if you have a foul ball, we should come up and call it...just like a HBP that the PU didn't see or got blocked out.. the BU should call time and award it.

Because as Haid says, PBUC has added that as a "voluntary" call similar to ball hitting the batter in the box. They want the "trap" called by the BU without waiting.

There should be some hesitation. I'm not sure what the timing was on this play:

 

"If the base umpire has clearly seen the catcher trap the ball, he shall hesitate momentarily to give the plate umpire an opportunity to make a call, and if the plate umpire makes no call, the base umpire should immediately call "foul" and indicate that the catcher trapped the ball with an appropriate "Ball's on the ground" signal.

@ricka56   That's a "padded hat" that is designed for pitchers to wear on the mound to help with head injuries.

I'm OK with the unasked foul call on this play. It was the right thing to do. PU had a foul tip, and BU had an uncaught pitch. BU is using PU foul tip call to make a foul ball call. BU was not judging that the pitch touched the bat.

W/O the benefit of the slo-mo replay, I'd have to go with Bob's call.

 

That being said, IMO I think both calls are wrong. I believe that the ball didn't hit the bat for a UK3.

Remember the focus over the past few years is to get the call right. But even in this attempt IMO the call may still not have been right.
