Last Thursday, local rivalry double header (2 of the 3 high schools in the same town) ...

First game I'm on the bases, bottom of 2nd, R1, 1 out .....

F1 gets R1 leaning, ...makes a perfect throw and F3 makes a beauty of a tag right on the forearm "YES,  GOT HIM"  (not sure why that came out, but ....)  As I trot back to "A", calmly the first base coach says "you had a tag on that sir?"  Me: "yes, and a nice one at that"  coach: "there was no tag there he missed him".   Me: "no he didn't" ...............and that was it, nothing else ..... calm as can be ...be that's what was said.

FAST FORWARD TO their next inning, bottom of 3;

I put a water bottle down first base line on the fence, grabbed a sip before going to shallow right, and as I'm about to go I hear:  "Hey blue .... you know he was out right?"   I think to myself, what the? .....  I turn and there's the first base coach going to his positiion, ...I said "I'm sorry?"  He came up to me and said ...."he was out at first here on that pick-off"   I said, "I know, that's why I called him out" (with a smile).  He says, "I questioned you to stick up for my guy".  I said, "wait a minute, ...you knew I nailed the call, and you questioned me twice about it just to stick up for your player who didn't say a thing, or react at all?"    He said, "yep, ...sorry, ...nice call by the way" ...smiled and walked away .....

Man this game is strange sometimes :wave:

People are strange.....coaches are stranger.....they can act ugly......when you make a call.

(Apologies to The Doors. I couldn't help myself.)

So he's trying to make his player feel better by making it look like you missed the call? How about he coaches his player about how NOT to get picked off next time?

Or maybe he's trying to defuse a player that has a short fuse.

thats what I thought too Rich, but the kid never reacted one bit, nor said a word ....
