I had a similar one to that as a pitcher, but on a pickoff to first. I started to stumble as I stepped to first, while also realising that the runner was actually already standing on the bag. My instinct was to hang on the ball, but then I realised I hadn't stepped off so needed to throw. I think the ball bounced three times before rolling to a stop just in front of F3's waiting glove. I avoided a balk - just - but didn't avoid the ribbing at the end of the dig. Nor several days after the game from my uncle and dad, who were F3 and F2 at the time.
