Get to my games tonight and realized I had left my bag with all my plate gear in it at the house. Luckily I was on the bases for the first game and was only about 15 minutes from the house. I usually leave my bag in the truck, but I detailed it the other day and took everything out.

Bag goes in the trunk end of April / beginning of May and does not come out until October  Shirts are whole different beast, I have forgotten those (not all of them at once) in the past.

As a matter of fact, I have a recurring nightmare that goes something like that.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^  this !!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I've dreamt about it, ....but thankfully that's it

I am fairly OCD about my gear bags and remembering them so thankfully not yet. I've been known to go out to my car at lunch and not only check to make sure the bag is there but also rifle through it and ensure I have everything.

My biggest concern is over leaving my shoes on the workbench after cleaning them and of course, forgetting my cup when it's my turn on the stick.

A few summers ago I was going to work as a 3rd man with a couple of our "up and comers" to evaluate them in a summer college league.  As soon as I pulled into the parking lot I said "Crap (or something stronger), I left my stuff at home."  So I went into the locker room and told the guys what had happened.  I stuck around and watched from the stands.  When I got home my bag wasn't where I had left it, went out to my car, opened the trunk and there was my bag.  I felt pretty stupid.

Please tell me you clean your gear through the year.

I once left my wife behind at a rest stop.  The police pulled me over a few miles down the road to tell me.  Which was quite a relief because I thought I had gone deaf.

(Okay, it's an old joke).

I was at a Tourney last fall working with a new partner I had been looking forward to being on the crew with. An older very experienced mentor I had total respect for. The field was near a main road (near enough to see clearly anyway). He stopped the game as a funeral procession drove by, removed his hat, and assumed a prayer stance. Not knowing what else to do, I followed suit, as did players and coaches. When all the cars had passed, he put his hat back on and we resumed play. During post game I mentioned it. He said, "Yeah, sure am gonna miss her."

I pulled up to a game last spring and started getting dressed.  Oh no, forgot to bring a belt.  My partner (who played HS ball) called me in the parking lot to say he was running late, he fortunately had an elastic uniform belt in his trunk from his game the night before.  I did the first inning solo with no belt on and the scoreboard operator feeding me baseballs from my ball bag as I hitched up my pants after every pitch.  When my partner arrived he had his (royal blue) uniform belt for me.  Wasn't pretty but it worked.

Normally I have spares of a lot of stuff in the car (including a new, unused jock and cup in the package for when my partner claims he can't do the dish because he forgot his cup :)), but for some reason on this day both of my belts were hanging on the hook in my closet at home.

I've also forgotten plate pants and had to work the dish in base pants (thank god for Diamond Ultralight shins)

Had just the opposite happen. Changed up after a game, and left my gear bag with all my gear in it right there in high school parking lot where I loaded it up after the game. Realized it when I got home and went to take my gear out to clean it up. 20 miles back to the field at a non-cautious speed limit and there it was, right where I left it. Lucky me, and a good learning moment. Have never forgotten anything in any sport I officiate since then. Knock on wood. :smachhead:

Yep, I have a pick-up so when it rains my gear goes in the passenger seat or in the house. I have forgotten it that way. Also with two boys, they will sometimes clear the truck without telling me. Either way, I have made that call.

I've never forgotten all my gear but have forgotten key items on two occasions. Once, I forgot my turf/base shoes for a football game last year - but luckily had my plate shoes. A little heavy but they worked and no one really noticed. Another time, I forgot my pants for a baseball game and had to call my wife to drive them over. We had gotten into a fight earlier in the day over something really important, like a fork or something. So I had to grovel - even more than usual - and beg her to bring them out.

So, Jocko, how many nights did you have scrounge sleep on the couch after that phone call?

Learned my lesson of having spare parts my first season. Gear up for the plate, strap on the belt and ballbag, pull the strap on the belt and....SNAP! The buckle just cracks in two. No one home @ my house, solo small field game so no partner. I did the whole game holding my pants up with my hand. Switching right and left depending on the situation. Only letting go to make safe/out calls. I certainly wasn't making any calls "on the run"

I'm kind of anal about remembering stuff. I triple check and quadruple heck before I leave the house. I was that guy in band that always forgot something and I refuse to be that guy now. I do the "keys phone wallet" pat every time I leave somewhere just because I'm afraid I've left something. I always have that "what did I forget?" feeling.

I arrived at a single varsity game, only to find that I had two plate shoes of differing sizes ! My partner the previous day had ridden with me, and we somehow crossed up our plate shoes. No problem, except that I wear an 11, and he wears a size 8.....Luckily, my partner was prepared to do the plate, and actually pleasantly surprised that he was able to work the plate with me as a partner. Me having a reputation as a plate-hog (but not in a bad way), led him to expect to be on the bases.

That's funny. I heard you had the reputation of a dish dodger :fuel:
