Honig's Poly-Wool

Does Honig's ever put the poly-wools on sale during off season, or are they pretty much a rock solid price year out?

I believe this will be the first off-season for them. I was under the impression that this was the first year they were used by MLB (not sure if they were available before). So, we'll see. I doubt it though, since they are a premium item.

1st off season for who? Honigs actually does not do the MLB guys pants, it is a different company...

But no those pants never go on sale.. they are in demand, and if you get a pair you'll understand why.

I think Hardwick makes the pants for Honig's and supplies them for the MLB buys. I have some of each, and the MLB pants (they have white pockets and no labels) are built a little more stout.

I've never seen the Honig's pants on sale, but if you belong to certain organizations you can get a little discount.

If you buy something from them during the year... you get a 10% (?) discount sometime in December. As others have said... there are some associations who get a 10% discount. Otherwise, no discount...

I can understand your needing a discount if you're buying 20 pairs, but you're buying a pair or two.

Cut loose and just order them whether you get a discount or not. I'm going to tip my next lunch waitress with the price difference you're pondering.

Is umpiring important to you? Oh, it is? Then pay whatever the price is and get the polywools. They're worth about twice as much as they cost according to George, my Hungarian tailor.

I definitely agree with them being worth it, and understand that. But no one in their right mind would get mad because they saved a couple dollars. I don't mind spending the price they are not, but if they mark $10 off within the next month I'd rather spend that, right?

I agree, but I won't be calling any games until probably February, so it's not that much of a priority at this time. I was thinking if they may go on sale around December then that would be awesome. If not, then I guess I'll be waiting until January. I was just curious.

Honig's will offer a discount on gift certificates. Usually only 10% or so. About three years ago I added up all the goodies I wanted for the next season. I bought a gift certificate for $200 or $250 of product, cost me $200 or $160. Then, when I ordered after the first of the year they gave me another 10% off for my association or ABUA or some sort of the usual discount they offer. I saved a ton. I know that two of the items I purchased were the poly-wools pants for plate and bases.

This may not work anymore but I was the lucky winner of the discount lottery that season.

I just checked their website and did not see anything. I think I got the offer for the discounted gift certificate for being a previous customer in an email or flyer from them.

Yeah, heather is on it's way out, so I wouldn't hold my breathe for them.

p.s. get them new pants professionally hemmed. I've bought a few pair of used poly wools that looked like someone stitched them up in the dark. And hem up at least three inches of material too. Two reasons for that. One, they hang better, as the extra weight at the bottom pulls the pants down. And if you wish to sell your used pair latter on, they'll fit more people with that extra length.

I think your assoc is not very smart... I know guys should look the same, but we are amateur umpires.. if some guys wants to spend his hard earned money on expansive pants.. let him.

My assoc is in the same boat heather only. I agree that they are going to go away soon, just as I think that navy shirts will go away since the MiLB has adopted the black.
