If you can't find the Delta-Flex, then you can order this one direct from All-Star as well:

http://www.all-starsports.com/products.php?prod=20

It comes in black and is cheaper than the Delta. It is basically the same thing except there is no hole in the neoprene. I got mine for about $16.00 shipped. All I had to do was take the buckles off my Douglas and the All-Star and move them around. Such a better fit than the stock Douglas strap.

I have never been able to understand how he can own the idea of plastic plates on a chest protector. I would bet that as long as the basic design isn't the same, then they can use the idea of plastic on the outside.

If any ripping off was done, it seems that it wouldn't have gotten this far.

Another alternative is to just buy the All-Star CP....

No thanks on that one...I waited with great anticpation for the CP130 to come out, saved my pennies and got one, then took several shots to the chest and collar bone area, and said WTF? Felt like I had been shot each time, so I grabbed a Douglas when they came around. I am glad they are back.

People are right. West does not own the rights to plastic plates on chest protectors. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had the +POS armored job or the Riddell Power. I miss my Power. I can't believe I sold it for what amounted to 3 magic beanstalk beans like Jack got, but without the beanstalk. :smachhead:

Are you talking about the CPU4000, the hardshell one? Or their previous chest protectors?

Sorry, I meant CPU30, It is this one here:

I thought this one was great because it looked pretty stout in the photo, and I was one of the first ones to get it. It is better than a +POS Brinkman type, but not much more than that. Any hardshell from V-Sport or Champion is much better. That's why they made the new model, I'm sure.

There are a couple patents that the Cowboy owns. If you copy the numbers from your CP and search they are available. One of the patents has to do with the way the plates are attached to the padding. That's the one that got Champion in trouble and caused them to alter their design. I can't recall the details of the other one.

Why did Riddell stop making the Power? I have never seen one.

Here is a photo of one. Makes me miss mine even more every time I see it:

When I first ordered a Riddell (too late by days) I was told that Joe wanted more money from Riddell (his original design).

They wouldn't give it to him so he took off for Douglas then sued Riddell to stop production.

Rinse, repeat; same deal with his move from Douglas to Wilson.

If you miss your now-impossible-to-find Riddell, you can always get the patented Joe West rip-off of the Riddell!

The interesting thing here ........... Go look at the Champion (older style) ..........it looks exacly like the Riddell!

The thing of it is, is that back when I got my Riddell, it was the only thing of its kind, and the closed-cell padding was a new phenomenon at the time. The thing would darn near stop a bullet.

No thanks, I value my lower rib cage and solar plexus too much to wear a Platinum.

This is a little before my time, but always noticed this CP Hunter wears. Is this an old Riddell as well? This looks more like the current day Platinum with the TOP pad and all. Were there different versions of the Power made?

LOL I remembered this and found it - at about 45 seconds, looks like Joe is wearing an old Power (I think its the same protector Hunter still wears).

Is it a Donzis (sp?) his Dad wore one. I believe a guy named Donzis built his own, out of football (Easton?) pads. They were precursors to the Riddell, et al. hard shells. I think they are referenced in the West patent.

Saw one in person; really solid neck (extra neck piece) and shoulder protection, maybe not so much for the ribs.

Bruce Froemming had one too if memory serves.

Yes, they were the Donzis-Easton chest protectors, designed by Byron Donzis. Donzis sued Easton over the patents I believe, after they had a falling out. Those were sweet protectors. I forgot all about those. I had a couple of umpire buddies that owned them. That is the style that Hunter wears and Bruce used to wear.

Is Adrian Johnson sporting a Douglas tonight at the Brewers-Cubs game?

Looks like it (the logo is visible)

Good up close on the video still shot:
