PA still requires navy as well.

I purchased the UA XL ultimate ball bag this spring and love it. The zipper pocket is ideal key and gum and it has plenty of room. The waterproof back liner is great for games played in wet, misty conditions.

They are all still used almost exclusively in the garden state.

Yeah, but so are pulled up Members Only jackets.

If you need to take your car keys to the field, just take the single key for you car and put it in your back pocket.

So, Dry-Los are wider than the UA Ultimates? I have a navy UA that I got for last season (2010) and it's nice ....didn't Jim come out with a 'wider' version this past year?

There are two versions of the Ultimate Ball Bag. The smaller is 10 1/2" wide by 12 3/4" tall. The larger XL bag, introduced in 2011, was designed to add a few customer requested features and to be the largest on the market at 12" wide and 13" tall (slightly larger than other larger ones out there).

Hope that clears up some confusion. Thanks for the support. There are certainly some nice bags on the market today.

For ball bags I use Dry-lo, I like the size and they are stiffer than other bags. Black bags, black bags, black bags......black works with any color shirt in any situation, you really don't need any other color.

At wise, I have one flex cap. Bought it a couple years ago when I started HS ball as there were little or no hats with the TASO logo available at our local supplier. I don't like the cap but not because it droops with my mask. It's just not a good fit for me.

Gotta disagree with you here. You need to check with your association... If they're good with black, great! Otherwise, you need to go with what they require/"suggest". For me, that's black and navy, depending on the shirt. Considering it's less than 40 bucks, even if you go with the top of the market bags, well worth the extra expenditure if it's suggested...

Navy is the requirement with my primary association. But yes get as they suggest. You may not like it but that's what elections are for.

For 2 years we've voted on going to charcoal and I was always in the smallest minority voting to go to charcoal, now all of the sudden we get an email that we are moving to charcoal :yippie: . Heather will be grandfathered for a couple of years.

I have both the original UA Ultimate and the newer Ultimate XL and I do like the XL better. It's a little easier to put your hand inside to get a ball and it is larger. I love the zipper pocket on the back. My only gripe is that the stitching on the pen slot of the XL has separated. Never tried the dry-lo's, so I can't compare to them.

Generally speaking---and please, everyone, don't take offense---older umpires are the least progressive and most penurious fraternity that I have ever been a part of. There are guys who'll wear a pair of heather gray combo slacks and a combo hat just so they don't have to $pring for a second pair of slacks or a second cap for a dozen years. They're the guys voting to $tay with heather and navy in a particular association.

Luckily, the progressives won out in our region as of two-plus years ago, and the navy shirt, navy cap and navy ball bag are nearly as dead as heather gray slacks. The stubborn few guys who call for navy when they have the plate, and somehow still sneak through with their heather slacks two years after their being made non-regulation, all have one thing in common: a schedule that's made up strictly of low-level games. They have another thing in common: no playoff games.

I will go with whatever the regulations require. Thankfully, charcoal slacks, and black shirts, caps and ball bags are all regulation here. Hopefully for all of you, that will soon be the case.

Kevin...

I have to agree. Our group moved to Charcoal, Black shirts, black bags and black hats last year. State mandates the default is Navy. I have not worn navy in two years :yippie: as we try to somewhat emulate the MBL guys in our dress.Football is a different issue. It's ruled by OLD GEEZERS who when voting on black pants for all games said NO  . If you work football and have not switched over to black pants yet....it is a small slice of heaven. My crew went with black this year and they are great...Luckily it was left to all crews on an individual crew basis as to what to wear, but the entire crew has to match...

Thankfully, baseball is the one sane organization I belong to in the officiating world...games based on merit and evals, not seniority. Wish football was the same :Horse:

I think the black pants are so much better than the white knickers. More room to move, fit better, look better and when it gets cold you can layer up under them much easier. I dont understand why someone would not be for wearing them...
