  1. simply snipped the string that holds it with scissors. It's not that hard. Then if you want you can sand down the plastic so its nice and smooth
  2. Pitty there is not one thing in my size. Nice deal but alas. Nothing will be bought from me.
  3. My Fellow Brothers in Blue! I'm currently training to run a half marathon for wonderful charity, and I'd like your help with donations if you're able. The charity is called "My Better Tomorrow". Their mission is to "give faith" and provide funding for physical therapy, surgeries and look for cures for special needs children for “cutting edge†therapy that insurance companies deny and will not cover. I feel that every child should receive therapy available, whether it is new “cutting edge†or traditional, that will help them with their day to day life. This is my little way of giving back. There are a few ways that you can donate to my running for this wonderful charity. All of these ways are tax deductible. If you'd like to help in anyway please message me, and I will get you all of the information. For this race I will collecting donations until July 5th, 2013. I hope you can help me with this wonderful cause. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
  4. Congrats Steve! But where's that hustle when we work together? See you Monday brother, your boys are doing great and I hope they continue this upward trend.
  5. They're a good company, I've done a good amount of business with them. And I've never had a problem.
  6. Hardwick's isn't shutting down. The new company that Jim was sourcing for 2013 because he couldn't used Hardwicks is shutting down. I'm glad to see Honigs step up for the brotherhood here. Instead of the normal corporate screw you attitude.
  7. To try to bring this all back to the OP of preparedness, Like I stated in an earlier post if you want to do 6 games a day God bless. But being prepared for anything is really the most important part IMHO. This is my biggest issue personally with doing over 3+ games in a given day. How does is prepare me for tomorrow, my college season and my a career 10+ years down the line. I've talked to my mentor about this multiple times and I get the same response from all of them. Do quality not quantity, and don't leave the best years of your career on a dust bowl. Now right now could my body do it, could I work on stuff sure. But the majority of these tourn at least in my area aren't as conducive to this. I prepare for a game much like everyone else. However, my biggest thing before any game or DH is giving myself 5-10 min to go through my own head with music on and just relax. Baseball isn't just my business but my release. It is my avocation not my vocation like some of you. Now again if you can do it, and you don't think it will hurt and in some case may help your game great! Do it, there is a place for all of us on a field. But for those of us that can't, won't or don't understand why/how then leave it be. If you want to buy 4 honda's and I want to buy 1 Mercedes then thats both of our rights and nothing is wrong with either. It's simply a different point of view on a similar question. Both take time, resources, energy and research to get. Doesn't make one greater than another. So how do you prepare for a game(s) 1-6 boys?
  8. We've heard this argument on this site before going both ways. I'm still relatively young and I'm in good shape. Hell I'm running the LA marathon on Sunday. But I will not work more than a DH in a given day anymore. Unless it is something very out of the ordinary as a fill in b/c a brother went down. I think it comes down to the level your working. If you're working college, minor league, scout team, independent ball etc. They're playing a 9 and a 7 usually. NO assignor at that level gives guys 3+ games b/c of what has been spoken about above. If you're doing 10-16 year olds and can do 4+ games because you umpire for a living then God bless. There is a spot for each of us and a service we provide. But I don't see HS guys that I evaluate working as hard as they should on Varsity game. And I know that they work the 4+ on the weekends. So how can they tell me that they work harder when they're tired on game 4/5 when they can't keep up the hustle, intensity and focus for 7? I just don't see it, but your mileage may very. Just my $0.02
  9. Thunder you could've just asked I have 2 pairs not being used lol.
  10. Called3K- i had them trim the neck larger on the top and bottom as to not choke me. Like I'd seen on others they'd done. As well as I had them not put the "wings" under the arm like you see on other platinums. I asked them to trace exactly where I had marked in order to have the cut that I wanted. Not exactly where wilson's diagram says too. I also rivited the shoulder caps on instead of velcro. As for getting hit. I too got blown up a few times with a pitcher throwing 90+ And you don't feel it. It makes a louder sound then before but I'm not worse for wear. And it's much more low profile.
  11. This is going to depend a great deal on your own body style BMI numbers. Weather conditions and how much you really "work" in that game. But I'd agree with what has already been said here around 400-500ish. All of this will mean nothing if you're just counting calories. To really burn you must workout more than just umpiring. But that should give you a starting point.
  12. since inquiring minds wanted to know. I went straight to the source and asked Angel. They're zigs with the top and sides and back all blacked out. Cheers!
  13. It all depends on where and who you work for if this is going to be a big deal. I know around me and the levels I do. We all pretty much wear 6's and 8's. I personally only use 6 stitches so I only have to keep a few different hats in my bag. Rube will be glad to hear you still remember his hints Alex. Also on top of the brand of glove. What is the color of the glove, is the catchers finger in or out, and is the catcher wearing a batting glove. Just little things to recenter yourself on tracking.
  14. I've owned both and both are quality no questions asked. It all depends on your body type and what fits you better. For me it's the platinum.
  15. Ok, so after a few issues with Team Wendy and having to have it redone to my specification. I now have my love back. And man do I love this set up! Wilson Platinum with delta flex and team wendy custom cut with no wings under my arms and riveted shoulder caps.
  16. Alan, jump right in and don't be shy.
  17. Here is mine in action on Tuesday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIvQYHDROaI&list=UU2gxs0UjTtIg-_lwn6hBbPg&index=5
  18. Ok guys here is why I have A. First lets start with a def of int.- Interference SECTION 50. The act of an offensive player, umpire or nongame person who interferes with; physically or verbally hinders; confuses; or impedes any fielder attempting to make a PLAY. ok so now we must look at is the fielder making a play on the ball and/or is “in the act of fielding†according to the book. Which is defined as 'A.R. 3—After a fielder has misplayed a batted or thrown ball and the ball is “within a step and a reach†the fielder is still considered “in the act.†ok so first red flag I see nothing that gives F3 a step and a reach before we even get to the coach and a possible interference. But I'll digress, so now we go to 8.3-J -“ If a thrown ball strikes a base coach on foul ground, the ball is in play. If the coach interfered intentionally with such a thrown ball, the runner is out and any other runners must return to the last base touched’ ok so now we figure out if F3 is within a step and a reach of the ball and if the coach intentionally was in F3’s way. And now we have interference in your judgement….. to me still no but moving on. Is the ball alive or dead? Well as Fitts already stated it’s a live if the interference is deemed unintentional according to 4-8-b “If it is unintentional interference, the ball is live and in play. It is unintentional interference if a base coach, bat person, photographer, etc., tries to evade the ball and it touches the individual or if it touches such person without the person being aware the ball was coming.†And if deemed intentional the ball is dead via 6.2-C “the ball becomes dead and base runners return when: A coach intentionally interferes with a thrown ball.†Ok so now again I see nothing of intent and/or a step and a reach to deem in the act of fielding. It’s not C b/c there is no protection for a coach by rule in his box, if you deemed it unintentional it could be kept in play with no penalty for D. You can say interference and kill it, but what rule are you going to use to get R1 out with no play being made on him, and R1 not committing the interference in B? For me the best answer is A. It has to be intentional and in the act of fielding or making a play. That’s my thinking. But I guess I’ll find out when the release my answer key on the 4 questions that I missed once the test closes. Just my $0.02
  19. A- it may be called if the base coach did something intentional........ Ref- look at Rule 8.2-J on page 73.
  20. Guys you need to know the mechanics for your local association AND the pro/cca mechanics. Bc if you want to move up you need to know them and apply them, period. Until this year with runners in 1st and 3rd in fed we were in C. Now we join the rest of the known world in B. So would go to a college tryout and stand in c bc my association tells me to? Be a student of the game and your profession. Be able to umpire 360 degrees and work on your play awareness. So if someone asks you why you do that it's not bc my association tells me too.
  21. Got mine done on Tuesday with a 94% now just have to wait 5 more days till first pitch. Good luck this season boys.
  22. do as Jocko says, not as he does. Welcome aboard!
  23. Congrats Warren, as for seeing pitch just working on tracking any and everything at home while not moving your head. And then breath and go back to basics when the first few pitches set in. Good luck and don't suck 2013!
