IMHO, don't bring out the rule ## unless you get to a protest. It looks like a know it all. (even though its our job to know) Most coaches if your locked up with them don't want to hear it then. If they have a question on a rule let them ask it. Just say "by rule....." I wouldn't say by "by rule 6.08 article 4......" reasoning if your wrong even on the smallest smallest detail you've just put a huge target on your back. As anyone goes up the ranks confidence and simplisity is the name of the game. You don't need to be the color comentator out their. The less you say, the less ammo they'll have to try to get you on. This will be a big learning curve for you. But get a mentor and a note book and learn from every game. Success comes easy to some, but don't let the baseball pass you by because of the little things that you though were ok. To many have been left on the side because of the little things. Just my $0.02

hckyosgood30 replied to Viper's topic in Umpire Equipment
No he's talking about the "pro" not the gold. http://www.homerunmonkey.com/homerun-wilson-umpire-west-vest-pro-chest-protector.html If you give them a call I'm sure they could help you out. I've never used this protector but I know a few guys who do college ball you love it. Hope this helps -

Headed to O.U.T.S. March 21-30.

1,500 a month seems low for a sunshine state umpire if your good. -
I'll go! LOL but in all seriousness I bet we could get a few guys to go down there.... Steve split gas and bring the boys yea? Kevin... your on your own since you won't let me drive! :meditation:

very interesting..... thanks guys!

You learn more for failure then success. This is one of the only jobs that we are hated, start at perfect and are expected to get better with every pitch. If you can't take us helping you.... well.... then I don't know what else to tell you. I would prefer that guys tell me the truth and give a damn then just leave and don't care about you and telling you so you can get better.

Let him continue with the balloon, and if he wants a better one and is interested in continuing give him the websites for gear and wish him luck.

I'm glad that we've gotten away from paper and phone assigning. Now I just go and block my days, have the emails go to my phone, tablet, computer and just simplifies the process. Also I think it brings more accountability overall. I also love REFPAY!
-
Our unit simply has us pay our association fee and assignors fee. We have a bracket of dates the later you wait to pay the more $$ you pay. So the guys who are on the ball get rewarded that way. There technically is a turn back fee but with our current assignor if you let him know with plenty of notice and/or have a reasonible reason he's pretty understanding. If you start making it a habbit then he'll enforce the penalty.

Kevin, don't rub it in..... So I'm at game 15 in the first 3 weeks of the season.... It will be sad if I have a rain out on saturday
-
It was active the other day. But hardly anyone ever goes into it, which I find sad. If you leave and comeback then your old chat is not shown, I believe.

Reebok Magistrate Plate Shoes on sale for $64.95!
hckyosgood30 replied to alex7's topic in Umpire Equipment
I see this as nessassary evil of doing alot of games. You're going to need to buy multiple shoes in order to rotate them. I own 6 pairs of plate shoes and 5 pairs of base shoes. I keep them shined and rotate so I never have to have that lets dust these bads boys off. To me its much like hats, under garments or uniform. Why would I just own one? Everything last longer and stays harper when you rotate. -

To Critique your Partner or Not to Critique your Partner!!??
hckyosgood30 replied to Cajuncubsfan's topic in Umpire Mechanics
Unless you have a really good relationship I wouldnt give my partner that convo on his zone. Especially when your new. The coaches will do that for you, if it gets too tight, trust. As for talking during a game. I tell my partners when I leave the plate meeting god willing see ya in 7/9 -
Yep and I'm loving the new crown.

Welcome aboard, and congrats on all of your successes thus far. Continue to learn and enjoying this wonderful game at the next level.

FED/NCAA are the same here. Like Yawetag stated, if the umpire believes it's going into dead ball territory WITHOUT the catcher creating a new impetus on the ball then its only 1 base. If you believe that it wouldn't have gone out without the new impetus then it's 2 bases. This was an NCAA question a few years back.

But how am I to clean my car windows so everyone can see my bucket if not for Windex!

CA was all BBCOR and a list for comp BESR bats last year. This will happen at JV/Frosh games b/c varsity seniors will sell their bats to freshman alot. They probably used it through summer ball and bp without thinking about it. Now it becomes a cage bat.... oh well
