Add Hawk Harrelson to that batch of announcers that need to just retire. Why cant they all take lessons from Vince Scully. I have never heard that man make a disparaging remarks about a player, coach, or umpire.

I read this story, and as both an umpire, and former coach I have to say that the actions by one person has completely tainted what is supposed to be an event for our kids. Clearly, that person has a serious ego issue, and is concerned with nothing more than winning a game. Makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I just pray that the BOD for his league see things in the same way, and never again allow him to coach. http://espn.go.com/sports/llws15/story/_/id/13460996/central-iowa-protest-upheld-little-league-softball-world-series

@MadMax , I hear ya brother. Kinda like when umpires show up to the field and realize they don't have on all their equipment....btw thanks for saving my a@# again on that one. (CDP wk4). @JaxRolo , let the man know, I have a Schutt HSM which I will be happy to send to him for no cost other than shipping. It was given to me, and worked for me until I got an MVP2500.

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities
-
Dang, I was going to say Lakewood.... Definitely Legion is dying around here @HokieUmp, city is pushing RBI hard and heavy.
-
And after watching what happened during the game on Sunday, makes Kerwin's intervention all more understandable
-
Had a few games where the coach was arguing, and carrying on, I would look at my mask(HSM) and ask myself "would I be able to knock ALL his teeth out?"
-
I have an AllStar HSM. I've got mine pretty snug on my face. As far as the chin guard, I have my lower lip resting on top of the padding.

In my opinion, When you set up in the slot it gives you one very distinctive advantage. You can setup right on the inside part of the plate, which then gives you a great reference point to call those outside pitches. Setting up over the catcher takes that away, and now you have to setup to a moving target. Too much extra work. Got enough going on, don't add more to it.

What's even funnier is to read John Farrell's lips. The broadcast stayed with that argument for another minute, and Farrell had some choice phrases.

According to another report, a warning was given. Apparently, this kid threw his helmet once already in the game, and was given a warning. Have a funny feeling, the "coach" sent this one into the news team for his own benefit. Story from the other side. They specifically call out the incident in the last paragraph of their story Also, looking at the Section Tournament Page, Petaluma Valley Beat Lafayette two day prior to put Lafayette in the Loser's Bracket. Talk about a grudge match for the second game. http://www.petaluma360.com/sports/4245930-181/petaluma-valley-major-league-team

F2's that can't catch and Strike 2 punch out......
Thawk replied to Dbellyflop's topic in War Stories
Had that happen this past weekend. Plate for State LL Big League tourney game. Punched a guy out on Strike 2. Batter turned, looked at me funny, and that's when it hit me that I had F---ed up. Everyone on the field, including myself got a nice laugh out of it. But the best came from the announcer at the end of the inning; No runs, no hits, nobody left on, and 1 error, on the HPU. -
Oh no one laughed on the field. 1st base BU covered his mouth quickly. PU calmly explained the situation. Coach got heated, but we all kept our composure. Realize at CDP, if a coach, player, or parent gets ejected, they're gone forever, can never return to the park for the rest of their life. So we are told to give them a longer leash. in our post game back at the bunkhouse we were having fun with that line.

So, working the last game of the night on Wednesday. In the rabbit. Bottom of the 1st, First batter gets plunked in the shoulder region and starts to head down to first. PU signals time, and states that the batter did not attempt to evade the ball, so no HBP. Head Coach comes out of the dugout, requests time, and walks straight toward the PU. In the process he says something that makes the 1st base umpire nearly bust out laughing. so later between innings, I go over to take to the BU. He tells me that the coach walked to the PU, and said "You'ld better have a reason, and it BETTER BE GOOD!"

I have actually had something similar happen, but it was a fielder. Parent approached me after the game and thanked me for the way I handled it. I heard the shortstop, who after a very close steal where I called the runner safe(tag was going down, but runner pulled his inside hand back to let his outside hand touch-very smart), say loud and clear "Blue you're FRIGGIN BLIND!!!". And yes, he used friggin. As soon as I heard that, I called time, called for the manager to come out to second, where I preceded to instruct the shortstop that if I EVER heard him yell out at an umpire like that again, I would toss him on the spot. Not just for the rest of the game, but for the rest of the season. Good note from that incident-it occurred the second week of the season. I found out that he won the league's sportsmanship award that year.
-
I don't care if he's the PU, and I'm the BU, I'm getting down there as fast as I can. Might be a cheap thing to do, but basically I want to bait him into saying something to me so I can toss him. If my partner has a problem with that, he can talk to me later. But I am NOT letting this coach act like that in front of the players and get away with it.

Rolling in for Week 4. Would love to work it longer, but when my week ends, I am headed to Rehoboth Beach DE for my son's travel tourney over 4th of July. But I am ready to have a good time and call some games
