You live in Madison? That's the heart of the league. No other franchise comes close to deawing what they draw, over 6000 a game. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2 i loved working in madison, great park great city great atmosphere. only thing was that stupid duck pond, average of 2 spectator interference calls per series

I am assuming you are describing a third-to-first manuever. Well, balk for feint to third. In FED, immediate dead ball; R1 goes to 2B and R3 scores. In OBR, you probably want to withhold calling "Time" until play is over. If ball goes into d.b.t., two bases from time of throw - R1 goes to 3B, R3 scores; disregard the balk as every baserunner reached the next base safely on the errant throw. -------------------------- The new rule would only apply to OBR, not FED... at least not yet. BUT, in the penalty for a balk, it says that "each runner shall advance one base without liability to be put out, unless the batter reaches first on a hit, an error, a base on balls, a hit batter, or otherwise, and all other runners advance at least one base, in which case the play proceeds without reference to the balk." So in the instance Larry has above, since the batter didn't advance safely, it would be R1 to 2B and score R3. Right? If the pitcher steps off the rubber, feints to third and throws it into DBT somewhere, then I would have R1 going to 3B, and R3 scores. Correct To put it simply: FED awards bases if it goes into DBT OBR - Balk Incorrect, if the pitcher would throw the ball into dead ball territory and balk you would still award 2 bases time of the throw, because it does read that runners may advance beyond their award on a balk. For example R1 R3 say the pitcher double clutches after stepping to third then throws to third, you now have a balk and the pitcher throws the ball and it gets away from the fielder, R3 advances home safely and R1 attempts to advance to third being put out at third base the out would stand. Same thing as if the pitcher were to throw the ball out of play on a 3rd to first move, step to third fail to throw, you say that's a balk, he then turns and throws the ball into the stands attempting to retire R1, award would be R3 score, R1 3rd base. Be sure to read the comments in OBR they are more than just case plays there are actually approved rulings there too.

my bad, i was talking about leagues that I had heard of, there are several collegiate wood bat leagues nationwide and those that I am familiar with play OBR or Modified OBR, i also forgot to add the Perfect Game, Futures League, and the NYCBL in my list earlier which all play OBR or Modified OBR at least to my knowledge....
-
I should clarify: NWL, CPL, and I'm pretty sure the cape cod league all play OBR, and the metro collegiate league is the same in the St Louis area also plays OBR. Each league has it's nuances but the common theme is that they modify the rules to include that crashing the catcher and the ncaa force play slide rule are in effect. Those are the only leagues I am privy to the rules of...

Not in High School or NCAA yet Most collegiate wood bat leagues are played under modified OBR, the modifications being that the runner cannot crash the catcher and the ncaa force play slide rule.

funny part of this is that the fake to third from the rubber is NOW a balk, this will make this toolbag happy :S

You truly are a lucky man, I got hit twice this past summer, funny (if anything can be funny about the situation) part was that I was hit twice at the same ballpark, both times with left handed batters up. The announcer, during the broadcast the second time that I got hit, even said "talk about deja-vu, lightning does strike twice"

I too hold my cover in my right hand while covering my heart and standing at attention. I am a vet but do not like to draw attention to it while on the field just as Hai'd said. Enough people notice that I am military by other habits i have, including standing at attention during the anthem, i don't want to draw any other attention to myself.

I wish all states would use OBR for high school. I know missouri really needs to do something, maybe use modified obr with "safety" rules put in place to avain crashes at the plate and crashing the pivot man but the immediate dead ball on balks and dead ball appeals really need to go the way of the do-do....
-
Ok finally got the interpretation the rule will be the same as a throw to first, a step to third from the rubber will require a throw to third base. So there will be no semantics and or circumventing of the rule as i'm sure players would try to do if the rule were worded any other way.
-
You have the definition correct however R2 has not legally lost his right to occupy the base. The Batter runner, in theory, can only "Force" R1 to advance, thus forcing R2 to advance thus forcing R3. Since there is no R1 in this situation there can be no force.

Mizuno Franchise trainer primes are pretty sick, all patent leather thus being a dream to clean as far as the uppers and have just enough white for me. An instructor here at school as them and they look pretty sharp in person. You can get them for about 140 shipped on ebay. A great deal seeing as they are about 200 shipped from the only other vendor alternative (rakuten sports)

crease the cap in reverse about 1 inch behind your original crease so as to "bend" the button towards the bill of the cap. This is what i do, then every time i put the cap on i pinch the original crease which maintains this "dip"

I don't really have much to trade, what is your cash price on these shins?

I'm definitely going to have to make this investment if i get into the game this year, looks way more comfortable, and i've removed the "peck pads" below the shoulder pads, only problem i've seen with mine after i've done this is that it leaves my armpits somewhat exposed, has anyone else done this and experienced the same? My only objection to the peck pads was whenever i would raise my arms to call time, ring somebody up or even go on a 1st to 3rd rotation the pads would stick out and looks like I had "boobs" sticking out under my arms... a lot of hassle and adjusting to deal with.

The school just came to us today and said that the third to first move has been made "illegal" per OBR now we are waiting on brian gorman (mlb umpire and rules comittee member) to give us the official interpretation along with several other new rules changes for 2013
-
Just talked about this exact rule at Wendelstedt yesterday, the rule if changed will be that a feint to third from the rubber will be treated the same as a feint to first. We should know by the end of school whether or not the rule will be implemented this year... only thing keeping it from going on the books is the players union as of now.

The only advantage of titanium over steel is weight, each will bend just as the other will, i've had 3 wilson shock fx titaniums that have bent on me after taking foul balls off the mask. Steel bars bend the same, i just prefer the titanium because of weight. I wish i could still wear a traditional mask, a couple concussions and trips to the hospital later and i have to wear a bucket, however i would like to see more choices in HSMs in addition to the shock fx and MVP 4000 though.

Not 100% in fed but obr since the play sounds like the obstruction occurs while the runner is in a run down that would mean that this is an immediate dead ball and R1 is awarded 2nd base and R3 scoring or back to third, if you think he could've scored ahd the obstruction not occurred (unlikely in this situation) then you score him, if you don't feel he would've reached home safely then he goes back to 3rd.

Has anyone tried the smitty poly-wools?

Thanks for the input. I will be buying another pair of honigs polls then in the near future. I have 2 sets right now and am just looking to build those up so I can rotate them around a bit more. Definitely need to have the permanent crease redone in the older set though... -
My favorite part was Danny's explaination to Jim Leyland "Hi Jimmy, we had a really close play but he clipped him right where that mark is" and then jimmy coming out later to check on his pitcher and says "Good call dan" and Danny saying "Thanks Jimmy, I really appreciate that"
