  1. My bad with the comment I made, i worded it completely wrong and went back and corrected it (hopefully corrected) it's hard to type tone of voice, but by no means did I mean to even give the slightest implication that I am "better" than officiating any level, my point was just that at different levels different things are ignored and called, that was it and I did sound like an asshole but by no means meant for it to come out that way.
  2. Sorry guys didn't mean for my post to have that type of connotation. Probably shouldn't have even put that part in there, my point was that at different levels different things are called and ignored, such as balks. At all levels my officiating adjusts to the level, just as my zone does. I guess what i am trying to say is that i did not mean to be condescending at all there with my post, just making a point but i should have made it differently. Once again, sorry if my post put anyone down, i'll choose my wording a little better in the future.
  3. Yup sure am! Missed it by a close one the first time i went, i am a better umpire for it though because now i've been able to deal with as many professional umpires say "the rattiest league of em all" (Referring to the NWL).
  4. i've said it once and i'll say it again, i like the white on em, looks professional, and don't EVER USE SCUBBING BUBBLES OR MEAN GREEN ON YOUR SHOES!!! It eats at the stitching and they will fall apart. Just use some degreasing agent such as purple power mixed in a very very weak solution with water, it may take a couple minutes longer to clean but you will save money in the long run only buying shoes once a couple of years.
  5. When he starts counting "missed calls" that's time for a warning, a look towards the dugout to acknowledge him and "That's enough" should suffice for that one. The next comment is see ya, an assistant coming to "get his money's worth" gets a cold shoulder and nothing more, a manager gets an explaination because usually he's sticking up for a player or keeping a player from getting run when he gets run.
  6. Ok the velcro could go, wish they had laces, but i really do love the patent leather all over the shoes. I have a buddy in the CPBL (Chinese Professional Baseball League) that was going to get me a pair of them, as the cpbl gives those shoes to them, but the freight was WAYYY too high
  7. Hey I'm 23 been around the site a bit before but just decided to join. Been umpiring since i turned 14 so just about a decade now. Been to Wendelstedt in 2011 am returning in 2013. Worked the Northwoods League for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, have worked D3, NAIA, and JUCO games in the st louis area along with St. Louis Metro Collegiate league regular season games. My most memorable moment as an umpire was walking on the field for my first Semi-Pro game in the NWL in June of 2011. I don't know it all, but i would like to, and I try to. If anyone's got any questions shoot em. I, like most other umpires, have plenty of war stories and love to talk in general.
  8. I'm with BRUmp here, you don't ignore the missed base if you see it, EVER even if it's a kid who just hit his first long ball, because we are out there as arbiters, we arbitrarily enforce the rules of the game without predjudice. Now there's a thing called grabbing the s****y end of the stick and make sure your not doing that either. I guess what I'm saying here if it's close, give the kid the benefit of the doubt, now if he misses the base and you can see a foot of daylight between his foot and the bag, i have a genuine problem with sleeping at night if i don't call that, because where does it end from there? Take that for what you will, then again I work a different level of ball than you guys do so I have a different mind set.
  9. I don't see what everyone's problem with the white on the shoes is. Personally I think white looks way more professional than the all blacks because it does take the extra time to keep them clean. And has anyone watched a big league or minor league game lately and seen all the white on their shoes?
