Team Wendy Pads with Cheaper Mask

I have a Champro Steel Umpire Mask. It's one of the cheapest ones you can get on Ump-Attire and it worked well for me this past season because I was doing games with mostly younger kids. However, this season I expect to work more games and some at a higher level than I previously have. In terms of protection, could I get away with replacing the pads on my Champro mask with TW pads?

More than likely , yes.

Jim is not going to sell anything that isn't of decent quality, so I think you're fine in that regard.  Others will follow with more advice for sure

The pads will do a good job for you.

A steel mask is fine, the weight issue might be the problem, but you have worn it for a season, so you are used to it.

Steel has a little more flex than some of the other materials, and has been around for years - like above I'm pretty sure you didn't buy a piece of junk from Jim.

While I am sure that Jim does not sell sub-standard equipment, you must also ask is that mask appropriate for the level you will be calling?

The mask may be fine for lower levels and there is nothing wrong with it, but is it appropriate for higher level ball?

A softshell CP may be OK for calling 8 year old rec games, but I would not wear it for HS Varsity or mens' leagues.

I assume you think that the Wilson pads provide better protection. Given that Team Wendy brings military grade technology to their product, I'd like to know what makes Wilson pads more protective.

If you have some older pads sitting around, cut one open and you will be shocked at how simple they are. TW make a great product but the pads do not work with my face so after trying all the pads on the market...Honigs work for me right of the package on my NIKE Ti mask.

The honigs pads are memory foam with a thicker layer of foam glued together and wrapped in a plastic bag covered with leather.

They feel great and have worked well for me. I am going to add a gel pad to the inside chin similar to to the Wilson Pads which I think will make the pad even better .

I just like the feel of the wilson foam over the team Wendy. Like I said, just my opinion.

You should be able to use the Team Wendy pads in any frame without an issue. Whether the TW or Wilson, it will be a protection (and comfort) upgrade on most any mask.

LOL! Because Wilson certainly doesn't test any of their products!

Can't use TW pads in the Force3 Defender mask. Proprietary design in that mask/pads combo. 

Otherwise all mask pads and all traditional modern era masks are interchangeable. 

Mask pads are truly a personal preference item. Try whichever you wish. If you don't like try another. They aren't very expensive and you can easily sell any of the name brands like Wilson, Team Wendy, Honig's, All-Star on the equipment for sale forum here and get some of your money back.

Without giving too much away, or losing my job, be on the look out for a FB post and email in the next few days concerning a new exclusive.  Smitty is coming out with a convertible jacket that is nearly identical to the Majestic.  We are continuing to add more Force3 products, just added the black frame Defender masks yesterday.  Believe it or not Champro is entering the aluminum mask market, waiting on the sample to arrive, tomorrow hopefully.  We have teamed up with Razzer to offer his unique wallet to a larger audience.  Schutt is working on improvements to the XV that I hope to see a sample of in the next couple weeks and New Balance has a couple things in the works as well concerning plate shoes, not just the new MU460s due in late 2016.

Also keep checking back on the site as we continue to make upgrades and improvements.  Developers are already working on the suggestion for adding dates to Order History as suggested by Mudisfun and BT_Blue, guess that's one of the things no one thought about during development and staging.

Military Grade Technology = MilSpec = Military Specifications = Whatever the DoD thinks is good enough.  After several years in the service, it doesn't take long to notice that MilSpec is not some absurd, over the top, better than everything else piece of equipment.  Yes, while some standards are high, it's is meant for best provided quality at the lowest bidder price.  Therefore, it is of my most humble of opinions that anything advertised as "military grade technology", is purely used as an advertising stunt in order to drum up business.  Just to qualify my point of view, No, I am not that "angry facebook veteran" that you see posting hate mail to Uncle Sam.  I proudly served for 12 years before being medically discharged from the service.  While this leads me back to your question of what makes Wilson pads more protective, I too would like to know.  I choose my pads for fit & comfort when NOT getting hit in the mask with a foul, because you wear it more without getting hit.  I don't choose them for "what's it going to feel like when.....".then I hope that they do their job when that time comes.  So far, so good.
