I did a search and didn't find any info on this hood. I'm going to buy one tomorrow @ Honigs and I was hoping I could get a yay or nay from my umpire brothers. I need one here in Michigan. My first game is supposed to be Weds. and the forecast is overcast and early morning snow flurries. Help me guys!

Well,if you need one here in Michigan, and you're going to get one, ....why do you need a yay or nay?:question1: And where are you where you are going to have snow flurries tomorrow? I have 41 with sun and clouds in the metro area?

Thunder,

There's more to Michigan than just the Metro area dry.gif I was looking for a yay or nay on the effectiveness of this hood. Not whether or not I needed one. The post was poorly written, now that I re-read my original. So, is this a good cold weather hood or should I look elsewhere?

And maybe my post wasn't well written either, but I as saying is ....you're going to Honig's today, go check it out. If you like it, then it'll work for you. For me, ..I'd rather sport some "180's" ear muffs.....

Thunder,

Sorry, I'm just being a little pissy. No worries, we're good. I'm working just south of Ann Arbor, in Manchester. My forecast is saying a good possibility of flurries.

Hey Jeff, ...no worries, you're fine, ...no pissy-ness here, that's what's so great about this site!!! It's always good, and always fun, and always informative!

I guess, to put it another way ....it sounds like you like the look and the idea of the McDavid,....go check it out and see what you think. I know you're looking for ideas of what people think about it, but at the end of the day, ...IF YOU LIKE IT, ...it's great! RIGHT?:beerbang I've never seen one of these actually ....and like I said, ....180s is probably something I'd wear if needed.

Manchester ...flurries ?? Yikes!!! GOOD LUCK!! And hey, report back on this 'hood' ....we're all equipment junkies to some extent, right ??:meditation:

I would suggest you forget the hood and just move. We're looking at mid 80's and sunshine today... It's practically APRIL for crying out loud - you shouldn't live in a place that still has snow. :shakehead:

Great idea!! Let's all just uproot our families, and leave our jobs, benefits, pensions, etc, and move so there's no snow in March so we can umpire! Great idea, ...come one everyone, who's with me ?!?:shakehead::jerkit::crazy: :bang:

I like no snow ever, personally... And not just for umpiring reasons - you people that live in the frozen north are crazy. Always makes me wonder how people ended up there to begin with. People far hardier than me, that's for sure...

It's where you're born and raised, where you found your job that supports you and your family, where you found and established said family, etc, etc. .... it's not crazy, ...it's called common sense. Trust me, if I didn't have to live in Michigan, I wouldn't, gauranteed, but ...it's in the cards, and it is what it is .......

I wore my hood on Saturday when it was 25 degrees. It was a softball doubleheader & I was comfortable for both games. I have also worn it for football games and I like the results. If it starts to warm up, you can just pull it over your head and wear it like a scarf or just take it off & fold it up to put in your back pocket.

This is a link to the one that I have used in the past. It is not too heavy but, seems to help.

I have one similar to this. Works Well.

I even use mine in the summer. That way people can't see the look on my face when I kick a call! :bang:

I use this one:

Under-Armour-ColdGear-Hood-Men-751311.jp

It is the Under Armour ColdGear Hood. It is fleece lined and can be used as a full hood and also converts to a neck gator, with a drop chin for full ventilation. They run about $25.00 and can be found all over ebay or places like Dick's Sporting goods.

Not all of us in the "frozen north" are crazy. We like having a change in season, a white Christmas, and no need to board up the house and head for higher ground come hurricane season. Besides living up here and watching shows like, Nancy Grace makes me believe that all the crazies life in Florida

(I hope you take this post as it is intended...in jest)

I like my change in season here in Florida. 90's in the summer, 70's in the Winter.

I may have to add one of these to my gear bag in the fall. Maybe its a sign of getting older, but I'm becoming less tolerate of the colder weather. The few games I've had this year were a bit too chilly for me.

This may be a stupid question, but how much bigger of a cap do you have to buy to wear one of these?

My base cap is a flex so it doesn't matter.

Same here. I have two of these. One made by Carhart that is thicker that I where under a hardhat or ski helemt. This is thicker and warmer. The Cabella's one is thiner and lighter.
