I, too, thought that grits were cream of wheat the first time I saw them. Don't get the appeal.  I hear tabasco helps. Never had the need to do that with any food.

I'm from NJ...grits were non-existent until I joined the army.  Grits were served in the mess hall and my southern friends taught me how to eat them.
