2nd Ejection in 2 days.....

The first one yesterday was for a kid throwing his helmet in my direction (AUTOMATIC).

 

This is the kind of league where in the past, coaches have run all over umpires from a different association.... My current group took over in the Fall and this is our first Spring Season running things. The league president had no issue with this EJ.

 

In a nutshell, DC came out to me at the plate to argue a BALK we called 4 pitches earlier.... I told him we weren't discussing it and he didn't stop. I told him to go back to his dugout and he pulled the ol' "Or what? Are you going to eject me? YOU need to learn the rules".... I obliged and sent him packing. He even told the league president after the game that he wanted to get ejected.....

 

A tad quick? Maybe.

Proving a point that we aren't the old association that lets coaches run all over the umpires? YES.

Not with the "YOU Need to learn the rules" line.  The YOU makes it personal and therefore AUTOMATIC.

 

Does the league have a one game suspension for ejects?  The only way to curb that behavior is impose an additional penalty to get the rats to think twice.

Not too quick at all.  He dropped the magic word and he all but asked you to relieve him of his duties.

Would have run him much sooner myself. As was stated, when he said, "Or what?" is when he gets swiftly jacked up.

What age group was this where the coach wanted to get ejected.    This is the problem with youth sports these days.  You want to get ejected?  Just leave on your own. Why do you need to make a show of it?  These people have no business being in a coach/potential role model position.

First, I completely agree.  But I equate it to basketball.  Coaches, especially NCAA level, make a calculated choice to go batsh*t crazy and get the T to fire their teams up.  It rarely works in terms of changing game momentum, but youth coaches see it and try it.  But it makes for more stories at association meetings.
