I think it's a good call. The hands going up might have been intended to avoid a solid hit on F6 than anything else, but they go up higher than needed for that and start to get in the potential path of the throw. Also, R1 changes direction twice: once to come in towards the bag because he starts outside the line, then straightens to the outside again to put himself in line with the throw. That's exactly what I thought too...note at the end he goes past the base to the right and has enough awareness to immediately look back to see if it worked.
