The op should communicate his issues to UA not flame them on the board. If their response is subpar or unacceptable he can then come back and explain.

Seems like they have had a lot of problems, though. I wonder how much the MiLB contract has helped and how much it has hurt.

Before getting on a message board to criticize someone unjustly go look up the request from UA as far as reviewing their company is concerned.  Below is part of the out of stock email I received from UA.

I actually went to look for Jim's email address before reading over the email they sent.  I did everything they requested.  Sorry that you disapprove of looking out for fellow umpires.

I ordered over $750 worth of gear this year from them and everything was in stock that I wanted. Luckily I picked up my Rite-Temp cooling pads before they were sold out!

It does become frustrating with many companies not wanting to keep inventories. It is a sign of the current economy that our country is in.

Sorry your experience with them hasn't been great. I can't say anything bad about UA. Have gotten all the items I've ordered through them within a couple days.

Thanks for your post. (And your concern John). All of you are correct. We are having issues here.

The biggest issue in some ways is we have been the victim of our success. We have grown each year, we just had our biggest April ever and are providing uniforms through the minor league contract for the first time.

The specific issue brought up in this post is that our out of stock status is not real time. We update it daily manually. This works fine for about 98% of your orders but is as you've seen not fail proof. This system works fine when you are smaller but as you grow it doesn't serve you (or us) as well.

The good news is that we are in the middle of a major website upgrade that when complete will bring you stock status updates in real time among other new features that will enhance your online shopping experience.

Thanks again for your post and concern and certainly apologize for the problem you had with your order. If anyone else has any issues or questions shoot me an email at jim@ump-attire.com.

Right here folks, is why ump-attire.com is the best place to purchase your gear.  On that note, I placed an order last Friday and received it in the mail today.  I have NEVER had a poor customer service experience w/ ump-attire.com

Similar note, orderd May 17th at my door right now via UPS. Customer service is a solid 2-thumbs up for Ump-Attire IMO.

I was lucky enough to score two more pair of the poly wool plate pants before they are gone forever. At that price, it wasa no brainer for me.

Basically $70 poly wool plate pants for $50/pair shipped.

Me too, off to the seamstress in the morning...

Yep, I just got rained out today.  I will be dropping mine off this afternoon.

I was a solid Honigs guy for years. I always got a catalog and ordered over the phone. I became dissatisfied when using their website, it was worthless. Then they had problems with shirts. I think all that is fixed now but I have been using U-A for several years and have been very happy. I have gotten gear for three sports without a problem. The only thing I have sent back were shoes and that was because of fit. I now stick with NB and all is good.

Jim

Keep up the Great work at Ump-Attire.

Some people will always be dissatisfied and you and Ump-Attire have not disappointed me yet.

I am sure this is directed at me, but it seems out of place.  I am dissatisfied at my rate of success (33%) in regards to ordering and receiving in-stock items at UA.  If that means I'm always dissatisfied then so be it I guess.  Hard to believe that anyone else in my position wouldn't be dissatisfied.

If that's not directed at me, then I apologize.

I don't think the post was offensive at all. The complaint was legit. We didn't have what we said we did, and this has happened twice this year to you (which honestly is unusual).

We get a lot of good support here, it's appreciated (sincerely), and it's typically justified. So when something goes wrong, especially twice to one customer, that, to me, is justified to share with UE. For us, no offense taken. We'll take the bad with the good and try to do better as a result.

Seems like they have had a lot of problems, though. I wonder how much the MiLB contract has helped and how much it has hurt.

For the record, the MiLB contract has been a positive overall.

There certainly have been some problems though. One, this has been an off year for getting products in a timely manner from some manufacturers as many of you have recognized. We also had a server crash that had us behind in early April for up to a week on many orders until it was fixed (which we were quite up front about). But other than that, ti's been business as usual.

By the same token, if something is done correctly, I like to mention that as well.

Jim did take the time to contact me personally and took care of the situation IMO.  That is customer service and that kind of thing does go a long way with me.

Thanks guys.

Okay so I thought I would add some more to this topic. I posted earlier that I ordered some shirts the other night from UA and that to my surprise when I woke up that my order was "out of stock." First, in the email I recieved from UA, it was from a person...not a mass generated deal. It was specific to my order. Second, I order a ton of stuff during the season, my wife put up with me being a gear junkie. I order from both Honigs and UA but most of the time I end up going with UA. Most of the time when I order something from Honigs everything goes smoothly with no problems. I have had issues when returning something back to Honigs but no major issues other than having to speak with someone in their office over the phone.

This afternoon Jim from UA took the time to contact me personally to attempt to make everything right. I dont blame UA for being out of stock. I remember when I used to order stuff from Gerry Davis....now they never have anything! In the end I think it was a classy move by Jim and UA will still get my continued business....much to my wifes dismay. Thats what she gets for leaving me with a credit card and being unsupervisedd.

Here is my two cents worth: When I buy online, companies that have phone and e-mail availability is important, just email only is a red flag to me. If a purchase is critical time wise  to me than I call and talk to them live to make sure it is there before I buy, if not I look elsewhere. This also gives me a chance to discuss shipping etc. I try to allow myself an extra day to price shop as well and to contact the companies.

Jim has posted at least 3 times on this post (maybe more...I've been staring at a computer screen all day and my eyes are shot).  Not many other companies will take the time to read/respond to posts, much less the guy with the check book.  That's why I'm glad to work with Jim on my clinic and am proud to consider him a friend...not sure he'd say that about me, but oh well...my checks always clear the bank.

Sums up my thoughts too.

I have never had an issue with UA.  Just placed an order Sunday night and it was here today (Wednesday).  Quality has been great as has their customer service.

When I first started umpiring I bought a lot of stuff initially from the company that supplies our state association (sole source).  I did not have a good experience with them, expressed my concerns and received absolutely NO reply or feedback.  Short of state association needs (caps, patches, etc) I do not purchase from them any longer.

I'm on the same page as you with these guys or as my Dad would say "Those bums!".
