Guys,

Has anyone else had issues as far as ordering items that turn out to be out of stock from Ump Attire?

I originally went to the Ump Attire website for some of my equipment needs because of the high praise most of the people on this site put on them.  I have also read about the praise for the customer service.

All that is great, but this is the second time I woke up to an email from Ump Attire letting me know that an item I ordered is out of stock.  The first time they didn't have any Delta-Flex harnesses in stock.  I ordered on April 11 and they said they wouldn't have any in stock until the end of the month.  Obviously, that's not very convenient so I canceled the order then contacted All-Star directly to order and I got it a couple days later and saved $8.

Today I found out that they are out of stock of the New Balance 950s in a size 12.  They let me know they'd have them in stock in June.  Now the website shows them as out of stock, but that was no the case when I ordered last night.  Again, not very convenient because I need them for this weekend.  I canceled my order and bought directly from a local store here in Central Ohio.

I realize that stores (especially specialty stores like this) can be out of stock of certain items.  My issue is why would they still advertise and accept payment for these items.  That's the opposite of taking care of your customers.  Spending the time to order the items and then call in to cancel an order because of a poor website set up is a gigantic pain in the ass.

I am just interested to see if anyone else has ran into this problem.

I haven't ran into that issue, BUT, I've noticed an increased pattern of these reports appearing on this site and on facebook.

I am slightly concerned that there are issues over there.

I try to do as little business as possible with ump attire, never liked the uniforms they've kept in stock there, and their protective equipment is just as expensive as the next place so I would much rather do business with honigs. Never had a problem getting anything on time and have never ever had a complaint about their uniforms and they are worth the extra couple of bucks you have to pay to get them from honigs, quality is much better and will last a lifetime if properly cared for. I can count on one hand how many times I've ordered from ump attire in the past 2 years, twice. Once to order smitty food ems, and once to order delta flex harnesses as As I could never get a hold of all star to order. If I can get the product elsewhere, I generally do as I've had nothing but complaints about the product from umpnattire, as far as their uniforms go. I buy my protective equipment where I buy my uniforms....

Thanks for your post. (And your concern John). All of you are correct. We are having issues here.

The biggest issue in some ways is we have been the victim of our success. We have grown each year, we just had our biggest April ever and are providing uniforms through the minor league contract for the first time.

The specific issue brought up in this post is that our out of stock status is not real time. We update it daily manually. This works fine for about 98% of your orders but is as you've seen not fail proof. This system works fine when you are smaller but as you grow it doesn't serve you (or us) as well.

The good news is that we are in the middle of a major website upgrade that when complete will bring you stock status updates in real time among other new features that will enhance your online shopping experience.

Thanks again for your post and concern and certainly apologize for the problem you had with your order. If anyone else has any issues or questions shoot me an email at jim@ump-attire.com.

Right here folks, is why ump-attire.com is the best place to purchase your gear.  On that note, I placed an order last Friday and received it in the mail today.  I have NEVER had a poor customer service experience w/ ump-attire.com

I've purchased gear for umpiring from HomeRunMonkey, Purchase Officials, All-Star, New Balance, Officials Choice, Fleming's Ref and Sport, Under Armour, eBay, Sports Authority, Dicks Sporting Goods and Cheapbats.com and never ONCE had an issue with the process, items or customer service.  In fact, New Balance and Under Armour went above and beyond to help me exchange used items.

I've given my CC# to UA three times and had problems with two of those orders.

If UA contacted me and offered a small gesture, something along the lines of, "Hey, that's our bad. Because of our error how about we offer 10% off your next order?", I might have been inclined to give them one more shot.  Hell, even when I called to cancel my order today the woman on the phone acknowledged there was a problem on their end, but didn't even offer an apology for the inconvenience that was caused.

Today, there are many options for umpires to go to purchase gear and in a lot of cases, the same gear that UA sells for less money.  My experience must be different than most of your experiences because I surely don't feel that UA did anything to rectify my poor shopping experiences, let alone go above and beyond like previous companies I've dealt with in the past have.

Jim, I've always enjoyed doing business with you guys. Have found it to be very professional and accommodating. And I will really enjoy the NB plate shoes that I won in your fb giveaway. Had a fellow umpire order from a company in Branson and had to wait a month to receive an update on his late order. I don't believe that would ever happen with you guys and I will not hesitate to continue referring UMPATTIRE to all of my fellow umpires. Keep up the great job.

The customer service was really good and very nice when I dealt with them.

Never had a problem with U-A. Jim has always been Johnny on the spot. I have had problems with Honigs uniforms, never from Jim. I suspected when I was reading this thread that their success was the problem. One of the biggest reasons I steered away from Honigs was their website, it was worthless.

I have always purchased my equipment and uniforms from UmpAttire.  I've had nothing but good experiences.  Very quick delivery time.  No problems.  I always recommend UA to my partners.

It's funny that this was posted today. I ordered two shirts from Ump Attire last night and got an email this morning saying that they were out of stock. That's the first time that has happened in all the times I have ordered from them.

I bet they realize a lot of stock issues on Mondays. If the inventory is not real time and thy have a bunch of orders over the weekend the system would let more orders be placed than product is available....basically a the people that order the earliest get the product.

Never had any customer service issues with them. Had numerous with Honigs (mainly delays in shipment with no communication to the customer).

I guess to each their own, but i've never had a problem with honigs communicating with me about my orders. Yes their website is a bit dated and could use an update but that comes when you deal with a company who has the tried and true philosophy. As to the uniform issues with honigs, ever since 2011 when they first stopped selling the pakistani shirts their uniforms have been head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion, perfect balance between breathe-ability and not being "see through" as other breathable shirts i have experience with are.

I believe that with Honigs the level of customer service depends on which distributor you have to go through. I have never had an issue with the main office. Issues are always when my stuff has to come from one of the distributors.

With Jim having the MILB contract his volume will increase and that should give all of us some benefit once he gets through this initial ramp up.

My experience with Ump-Attire was perfect last time I used them.

I was looking for some size 16.5 to 17 shoes.

A nice lady called me back and stated that they, U-A, have no access to these types of shoes BUT then steered me to someplace that did.

Outstanding.

I was lucky enough to score two more pair of the poly wool plate pants before they are gone forever. At that price, it wasa no brainer for me.

Basically $70 poly wool plate pants for $50/pair shipped.

Keep up the Great work at Ump-Attire.

Some people will always be dissatisfied and you and Ump-Attire have not disappointed me yet.

The op should communicate his issues to UA not flame them on the board. If their response is subpar or unacceptable he can then come back and explain.

Seems like they have had a lot of problems, though. I wonder how much the MiLB contract has helped and how much it has hurt.

I don't think he's flaming them at all.  He's voicing his concerns on here.

I think it is valuable information to know about both good and not so great experiences with vendors so we know where to confidently spend our money.

I am sure this is directed at me, but it seems out of place.  I am dissatisfied at my rate of success (33%) in regards to ordering and receiving in-stock items at UA.  If that means I'm always dissatisfied then so be it I guess.  Hard to believe that anyone else in my position wouldn't be dissatisfied.

If that's not directed at me, then I apologize.
