he said he didnt see it - but he had no problem reacting all game up until that point

When ESPN showed their "enhanced" replay I was very happy to see 3BU right on top of the touch (or lack thereof) at third. Thought for sure he was going to be watching the ball rolling to the fence. Gutsy call and good for for him calling what he saw. Good timing by PU on the throw home a couple innings earlier on the bobble by Hawaii's F2. Some of the positioning some of the guys took was a little suspect and some of their mechanics needed work, but all in all, not too shabby.

I agree the Umpires did a very nice job.

And yes positioning was not a strong point. There was a play at third were the umpire was straight lined. He did get the call correct.

I thought they gave him a lot of rope when he argued the bobble of his F2. Looked like he was showing PU the footsteps of the runner claiming he never touched home..

Problem is, coach, your F2 never tried to tag the runner again after the bobble while the runner walked back and touched home. .

The ass-coach for the winning team was a real azz.

At one point I heard Jim's say "that's 2" or something like that on a close call that didn't go his way.

Then later the HC told him "you can't do that! I beg of you"

I agree 100%. He was right on top of it, and based on the replay it looked *really* close. It does take some guts to end a regional championship game with that call.

hed had 5 minutes of the fans and the dugout right behind him yelling about the missed base before the appeal

I dont understand your post...are you saying he did not see the play and the dugout/fans influenced his call?

no..i assume he saw the play or i cant imagine he would have called it...it was just unusual in that the appeal happened after the visit to the mound and it must have been a long few minutes ruminating and listening...imagine having that 3 or 4 minutes knowing that you are going to end such a big game on the big stage..just really interesting, thats all...the replay showed that he definetly didnt step on top of the bag but was inconclusive as to if he hit the side, but he was right there and may have seen an inch of space...

I think a kid pointed it out to the coach while he was at the mound. On replay you could not tell, but when they appealed, the umpire BANGED it hard. I have got to believe he was right on it. Kudo's to him for making the right call at a critical time. I heard these coaches jawing all game. I would laugh if there were an ejection on national tv.

Sometimes it takes balls of steel to make a call you believe is correct on a play that has that kind of effect. kudos

Hawaii manager Danny Stephens says he didn't see the runner miss third base, and told the San Bernadino Sun:

I'd really like to see a replay on that, but there are a lot of replays in the tournament I'd like to see.

Just another rat. I'm sure every call went against him in the tourney. :shakehead:

I bet he wouldn't like to see that force at 2B that F6 appeared to drop on the transfer but the umpire called it a no catch. He also got the call on a banger force play at 3B which I think the runner was out in the same inning.

I'm sure he saw the miss pretty clearly or else he wouldn't have been so eager on the appeal call. In fact, did he call the out on the appeal too soon? Did the kid even get to say which runner he was appealing?

This is what I have been saying. Plus I don't think he had the best position to see it. Another step to the right maybe.

I like how instead of going to U3 to whine about the call, he ignores them and goes to a LL Official. You really think THEY'RE going to do something?

RAT.

Actually, those same LL Officials sat on the Hawaiian team earlier in the game for stealing siganals at second. I guess the folks that run that tourney didn't want that on TV.
