What would he do to the San Diego Chicken!

Depends on whether the chcike was following the agreed upon script or was adding to it something that went over the line in which case the chicken wouldnt be able to do some of the stuff he does and maybe the powers that be could even stop him from being hired (or at least being on the field)

Yes, he could have ignored it or laughed it off, but that essentially condones the behavior. It's similar to not calling a balk when a pitcher blows through a stop. It really doesn't effect you, but the next crew who comes in and does call it now has to clean up your mess. "But they've never called this before???"

I don't believe I would think anything of that. It was a walk so whats the problem with " just a bit outside." Now if it was strike three that's different.

An A crew threw a head grougskeeper in NJ several years back in the SAL. I talked to the crew the next day.

Was this the one?? Seems like there have been several different areas of team personnel getting the heave ho over the years, probably even some with the trainers complaining about the field and getting kicked out also, but that is another google.

Maybe it's just me but it seems respect for officials everywhere is at an all time low. I know we don't do this for love and admiration but I find myself shaking my head a lot lately at some of the comments I see and hear.

I agree. It seems like its happening to everyone not just me. I almost had a fan hit me after a game this year. Very sad.

It's been happening forever. Now every episode makes it's way onto the internet as a video or a blog entry.

You do not allow any person associated with a team to undermine your capabilities or responsibilities as an umpire.

It might be hard to comprehend as an amatuer umpire.

Just like when the batter draws a line, you do what you gotta do, even if it involves other team personnel other than just the players, managers and coaching staff, on the field trying to show you up.

Why do you think Hitchcock, a former Major League manager, told the league not to play the song after the incident with West, if it was not an inappropriate way to show the umpire up.

You have to put me on the list of people who disagree.

I applaud this umpire. He stopped what is just blatant disrespect by a younger person. The fact it got so much press or air time is good. All these announcers, music players etc, will get the message. Do your job but you are not going to ridicule an umpire for the world to see. I think he has big stones for the ejection.

I also agree with the post of disrespect being at an all time disgusting low by fans, players, and coaches at all levels. I have heard comments and have seen players do things in the last five or so years that are just unbelievable. I notice it a bunch out of younger coaches. Not all are like this but some are. When the kids see and hear what the grown ups say and do, they take it as a learned and acceptable behavior.

For umpires that are allowing disrespect to go on, you are setting up good umpires that do a good job for big problems later. We are not going to allow people to compromise the sportsmanship and integrity of the game. Now Danny may think we need to get thicker skin, but in reality our skin is just fine. It is the players , coaches etc, who need to get in line on what is acceptable behavior on a baseball field.

That being said, I always try to keep an even keel, not ever raise my voice but sternly enforce the rules on the field. Nothing worse than seeing an umpire raise his voice, make a snide remark to a fan, player or coach or loose his cool for all to see. You have lost all respect when this happens.

He handled it the correct way. Why are you going to try to run down the GM? This will probably take way more time than it's worth. By the time you run down the GM, explain the sitch to him, hear his arguments, invoke your penalty, way too much time will have been spent and you will come off as overreacting. Get him while the song is being played and there will be no doubts on the whys.

No.. When we were at PBUC they told us to get the gm....just telling you how his boss is gonna tell him.

Overreacting. is what he did.." your Done'.. pointing to the booth... it didn't look very good.. But if this happens to me, i am finding the GM.. or if it is College baseball.. Im talking to the Head Coach... that is how I will handle it. Not saying I'm right or wrong.. just telling you how I was taught at school and the Eval course.

Under PBUC, I stand corrected. Next time I work under their supervision, I'll follow their guidelines. As for now, I would have done the same thing

The PBUCUM says to get with management. I use what I can from this book, but it's not the be all end all, outside PBUC sanctioned contests.
