Ok , ..on the backlash of "what to buy" and my "fall ball" thread ..I got to thinking ...(these kinds of posts are always fun!);) But ....

What's on the list for the 2011 season for equipment? Are you all set, or do you NEED something? If you don't NEED something, ....ehhhehhmmm....what do you WANT!!:wow::FIRE:

I'll start:

NEED:

-New shins ...yes, ....I used my +POS Brinkmans this year:wave:

-Another Polo blue shirt, and an additional color shirt, 99% sure it'll be cream (Smitty's)

-Black w/ polo blue stripe pull-over

-Having a custom throat protector made to match my mask

-Equipment bag

WANT:

-I'd like to add a second pair of plate pants

-Long sleeve black shirt

-Additional black ball bag

Other than that, thankfull, I'm pretty well covered :D

GO!!!

My fall shopping list includes:

Reebok Mid Cut Plate Shoes (when ever they get back in stock)

Reebok Base shoes. (May go with the Reebok NFL Quag Mid cut as I haven't seen the Magistrates in a mid cut option.)

1 new pair of Smitty Base pants

1 new pair of Smitty plate pants

2 new hats

New socks

1 new powder blue shirt

Shin Guards- I have the Douglas West Vest Triple knee shins and am debating either getting a new pair of shins or sending those back to Douglas to be refurbished, I'll decide when the season ends.

:o I was wondering regarding the undershirts mentioned in one of those post.

If it keeps you from being sweatty al over... than it will be on my -very short- list.

-Reebok/ New Balance base shoes

Not a necessity. If you can find a solid pair of turf shoes at the local sports store, you're set. Personally, I use the Under Armour Twin Bills

However, if that's the direction you want to proceed in, go RBK all the way.

I plan to complete my shirt collection. I need:

Pro Gray

Gray

Polo Blue

White

R/W/B Powder

I was holding off on buying those but I've seen a lot of guys with those colors/ (I hate the r/w/b powder.)

I need new hats. I'll be getting Richardson mesh hats in black and navy. I also need 6 stitch American Legion hats, in blue and black.

Depending where I umpire next year, numbers might be going on my shirts.

If the new West Vest does indeed come out, I might think about that.

Brandon, if you want flex fit, why not get the regular Richardson Flex Fits that LOOK like fitted wools?:o

My needs (and wants) are small this year. I upgraded all my protective equipment this season (2 CP's, 2 sets of SG's and 3 FM's). I got all new Platinum, Douglas, Honigs and All Star gear.

This year I will need a new pair of base shoes (NB or Reebok), a navy and a powder shirt and new 4 stitch hats (black and blue). I also will pick up a couple of ball bags, a line up holder, a new belt, and a plate brush.

I might buy a real equipment bag. I have a tennis bag that my wife won. It is plenty big but, not really organized and does not have wheels.

I get the system 5's from Richardson. My previous hats (4 years old) just now started to fade. While I had a partner buy the wool versions and he's bought a new hat every year for the past three years. From what I've seen mesh doesn't quite fade as much as the wool. That's why most guys around here wear the mesh version.

Plus, they let my scalp breath.

What I NEED:

1. Base shoes, (rebooks preferably)

What I WANT:

1. Charcoal gray combos

2. Numbers!!!!!

3. MLB Powder

:o I personally will never, never, ever wear a powder with rwb trim. I would rather go on the field wearing an "I am with stupid ^ "

t-shirt on!

There's always something each off season;

RBK low cut plate shoes....even if I pay close to full $ on them....I got last years for $69.00....so I'd still be making out.....and only because my "back ups" are getting pretty baaaad.

Add to the pants....charcoal....plenty of heathers which will be going Dinosaur in the next year or so....so add another base and plate pair.

Leg guards; maybe the Diamond DLG Ultra Lites.....I like the low profile....lowest I've seen, but out of stock is at

http://www.hitrunscore.com/dlg-ump-lite-170-diamond-umpire-leg-guards.html

Sorry....forgot to add.....again.....if you want McDavid....

www.mcdavidusa.com

And the discount code of mcd103 STILL IS WORKING....

All else is in great shape for 2011.

I didn't do as many games this year as I wanted, and it looks like I'll be skipping the softball season, too. Because of that, I don't have nearly as much to spend as I would like.

That said, my original need was a new mask. Now that All-Star is working on a new non-HSM, I may wait and see, though. So, if I'm allowed to spend some umpiring cash, I'll probably go with some base pants. I've been using combos, which don't look as sharp on the bases.

I did ask Brad about an update on the new All Star rig this morning ...nothing yet though......;) I'll keep you posted

Jeff and Scuzz,

I have worn the Diamond DLG-UMP Lites during the college and H.S. season and will continue to wear them. There are a few observations worth noting: first, they are VERY comfortable. The weight is truly remarkable and the absence of a strap behind the knee enhances comfort. The profile is very low.

Second, since the knee cap is not secured against the knee it can rub and become irritating. I wear a compression short that covers the knee and have no trouble.

Third, shots to the shin are felt more than bulkier guards, but the Diamond still offers ample protection. Since the guard's knee protection "floats" off the knee cap, a hard blow to the knee cap is felt more than with bulkier guards.

Fourth, because there is no strap behind the knee the guards have a tendency to turn if the lower straps are not sufficiently tight. Once I adjusted the straps correctly I did not have a problem with the guards rotating.

Overall I have been very happy wearing these guards.

Hi Pete, that's huge! Thanks!

But, what about that gap between the top of the shin and the knee cap guard?? It looks GIGANTIC:HS
