Just got home from my association's umpire class....Got told i was voted "Rookie of the Year" Baseball Umpire for the Kern County Officials Association! I have really enjoyed my first year of umpiring High School Baseball....Pretty jazzed about the award! I told them I still have about a month left of games and it isn't too late for me to screw up bad enough to get my award pulled! Seriously....It was pretty cool to get the award and I have met a lot of good guys this season who umpire for the right reasons...Looking forward to many more years and still have a lot to learn!

Congratulations! That is a fine honor indeed.

That's really cool - congrats! Wish our association would do something like that, but I honestly don't know how they could pull it off with as many members as we have.

I haven't been evaluated in my 2 years in my HS association but I keep moving up.

You would have to get seen as a rookie. That just doesn't happen in some places. They would shave a monkey, slap a patch on his chest and give him a schedule of Frosh games if they could be confident no one would complain that he throws his crap at the geometry teacher standing in the coach's box.

Our association does an award for an umpire in their first three years. Usually, it's gone to someone that just completed their third year. It gives them some time to really evaluate the person, not only for their on-field abilities but their off-field ones, too.
