I went looking for a lineup card holder last week. My Gerry Davis one broke last year and I spent the remainder of the year keeping it together with tape. In the past three years, I'd become a pro at folding the different lineup cards to fit in the card, but the problem was being efficient in changes.

I found the Sports Information Media one:

At $15 each ( http://www.sportsinf...etail.asp?id=86 ), I was leery, but I liked the fact it was larger and was able to keep the cards open. I ordered two, since the shipping was $8 either way. They came shipped by UPS on Monday, 6 days after ordering. I didn't receive a shipping confirmation, but $8 to receive it within a week isn't too shabby.

I haven't had a chance to really inspect it, but the first thing I noticed was it was a bit bigger than I expected. What's neat, though, is that it folds accordian-style into fourths, so it should easily fit in a ball bag, especially my left one that usually holds nothing. Another neat thing is that I only need to open one side, leaving the other side folded.

The holder is designed to allow writing without removing it from its side. There's a plastic frame on each side, leaving an opening in the middle to allow writing on the card. When I get a chance to try it out completely, I'll see how it works with each type of card I see. The only downside I can see is that it won't allow me to write on the borders, where I typically keep track of meetings and courtesy runners. If this is the case, I'll have to find another place to keep track of it on the card.

Overall, I think it will take a small learning curve to get used to it, but I think it will work wonders on keeping the cards from having to be folded several times and then unfolded to keep track of changes.

Interesting. Thanks for posting photos.

Those are from the website. I'll take some of the actual product, though, even including different lineups in it.

Yes it is to big for those that carry the holder on their shirt pocket. If you keep it in the ball bag it may not be bad.

I learned a lesson the FIRST game I carried my line up holder in my shirt pocket. I took a "foul tip" :tantrum::fuel: straight to the CP...I went to record a change later in the game. The metal clip that holds down the line-ups was crushed! After a small amount of work on the holder that evening...ball bags only.

The size of this holder doesn't bother me...just the size of line up it will hold...

The 2 formal associations I work for, 1 high school, 1 college, we would be gigged on an evaluation if we didn't have the lineup card in our pockets. I don't really understand, but that's what they want.

While I wouldn't keep a lineup in any of my pants pockets, I see no reason it should be wrong to keep in a ball bag. That's what I do, as my holder fits perfectly in the back side compartment of my ol' +POS bag.

That new holder look exactly like what I'm looking for LL games, with those long lineup sheets. Thanks for posting that.

You don't understand, because you're an intelligent, reasonable adult.

The umpiring realm is fraught with preposterous regulations and requirements that go far beyond reasonable bounds. But that one is among the most ridiculous I have heard of. In a two-to-three hour contest, there can sometimes be zero instances where you even need to retrieve and unfold your lineup card wallet. An average game sees you make use of it a mere handful of times. How could it possibly matter if you go into your ball bag to retrieve it, rather than going into your shirt pocket?

These Napoleonic guys with their inane requirements. It's usually at the most, laughable. This one certainly is. It's very much like the military: If we can get them to do this senseless thing, then we can get them to do any senseless thing.

Remember, what was it, two years ago you couldn't have white marks on your shoes? I had to carry Sally Hanson Hard as Nails noir to black out all the logos on my friggin' New Balances. What a joke all this crap is, and what jokers these umpiring regulations guys are. Dream up something helpful and useful for us to do for a change.

The thing that worries me most, is that Kevin tends to keep things inside, and they build up and it causes undue tension in his life. Let it out Kevin, ...say how you feel, ...it's healthy for you! :notworthy:

Couldn't agree more. The funny thing is that you could lose a post season assignment based on where you keep your lineup cards! That is absurd!

I'm trying, Thunder, I really am!

Have I told you what I think about tucked-in jackets?

LOL ..

No, but I think we've discussed it .......but that sounds like another thread, OR...you can tack it onto the "fashion sins" post :D

Catsbackr: "Interesting. It looks a little large for me. 9 inches long."

Does anyone have a leather folder for scorecard's/lineups that is in the style of the vinyl Ump Attire/Honigs wallets? I've had a few and they all started to fall apart after about a season (sometimes less). They aren't particularly expensive but it seems stupid to have to replace them every few months.

A guy I worked with last year adapted a leather checkbook holder into quite a nice holder for lineups. The modifications were 2 pieces of thin ABS plastic bonded to the inside so it kept its shape and he had a writing surface. He said he had used it for about 5 years, didn't look worn at all.

I gave up on the wallet type line up keepers.

I simply use about 10 3x5 cards held together with a small binder clip.

Gives me a writing surface and something extra to write notes on.

Pack of 3x5 cards last for some time as long as your kids don't get them...lol

They also fit shirt pockets, ball bag, or back pockets very nicely.

I ordered one of these holders, used it yesterday for the first time...I really like it! Once you put the lineups in, it is fast and easy to make substitutions on, enough surface to write on...It is too big for a shirt pocket, had no issues storing in my bag...I was able to make changes much faster, no folding....A little expensive on the shipping, but so far, I like it...My partner asked about it and thinks he will get one as well....
