A shot that damaged your equipment

Have you ever taken a shot so hard that it damaged a piece of your equipment? I haven't it happen to me, but I was wondering if anyone had cracked plastic or torn fabric or anything like that. Please share your war stories!

last year , in a LL majors gm . a kid who throws 70+ , hit me in the shoulder cap (catcher completely missed the ball) . it didnt hurt , but did make a loud sound that every one heard . i didnt notice till a couple days later , that the impact point "dented in" and cracked the plastic slightly . this is a champion hardshell 17"CP , that i still use for anything 12 and under . i posted about this last year . as of yet i havent had any mask dented . i have had a TG'S torn completely off . for gms 13 and older and HS i use my douglas CP .

When I was working a men's league game this year I took a foul ball on the shoulder cap of my chest protector. At the time it hurt like crazy. After that night game I just took

my gear off and went home. A few days later I was putting my gear on for a game and my partner said hey did you know your chest protector has a big crack. I looked

at it and the shoulder cap had a crack that covered half of its width. Needless to say I did not use it for the game. The chest protector was a Champion Hard shell.

I somehow ended up with a one-inch crack on one of my Diamond Featherweight SGs. It separates the single-knee cap plastic from one of the rivets. Nothing I'm worried about at the moment.

Took a shot last year that cracked my cup. Luckily for the ladies there was no damage to its contents. Years ago I also took one off the foot that put a dent in a brand new pair of +Pos Plate shoes (Metatarsal Plate). I have also had a few counters break after getting hit in the hands.

Other than those things nothing out of the ordinary. I consider masks bending part of the business.

I've had some good dings, and some light damage but nothing that renders the equipment inoperable or dangerous to use.

I'm using the same indiclickerthingy I got for my first game. The other night, I couldn't turn the outs dial; I panicked! Later, though, it started to work (thank God!). I couldn't tell if a piece of dirt had lodged, my thumb was sweaty, or it had failed for a while.

I have 6 others in my bag, but I have never used any of them.

Foul ball to the face, probably around 85mph, in an 18U College showcase game two years ago dented my first Wilson mask. Kudos to them: 1) didn't even feel the shot and 2) they hooked me up with a replacement (under warranty) with no problem.

Thankfully, nothing drastic for me.

Strange, but twice I've been wearing brand-new plate shoes and had a catcher step on my foot. Got me right in the toe box, so I didn't feel anything. But both times it left a nice cleat gouge in my nice new shoes!

Last year I took a foul ball to my left hand. Kind of scared me because, besides hurting like heck, it hit in the same spot where I had broken my hand playing about five years ago. No damage to my hand as it turned out. But when I opened my hand, my indicator fell out in ten different pieces! The shot had cracked the case, caused it to break in half and all the dials and springs and guts just kind of plopped out.

over the years, ive had a few masks with bent bars, but also a K1 that has a number of ball marks on the fabric from impacts through the shirt....but recently a new shirt ruined by a foul ball that left a shiny mark on the right breast .......

I really like the Champro soft shell protector, but its one fatal flaw are the plastic clasps that are exposed in the front. And wouldn't you know it - my 16 yr old was behind the plate for a youth game when a pitch hit it just right, breaking the clasp. It was 9/10 yr olds, not even a hard pitch. But enough to put it out of commission. Don't know if it can be repaired yet.

The best feature, in my opinion, of the K1, is that is fastens using velcro straps, instead of any buckles or hooks. I wish more CPs did this.

while working the dish for sub-state legion game, F1 hitting 85m.p.h. consistantly.  I had a fouled ball hit my mask directly and it dented the cage.  Wilson shock FX 2.0 with steel cage

I work w/ a guy who has cracked two Nutty Buddy's.

I have lost two masks to foul balls.

Other than that, no real damage.

I had a bunch of padding get knocked out of my Shock FX earlier this year on an extremely wicked foul to the head in a Legion game.

I broke an indicator once on a hit to the hand. The old +POS soft shells would regularly break the shoulder cups. Never dented a mask, which is why I don't wear a bucket or titanium conventional masks.

Had a foul ball split a cheap shock doctor cup in two a few years back, when I took off the jock two halves were in there. Bought a stainless steel replacement the next day.

couple of dented masks.........my backup CP (K1) has a number of white ball marks and a number of ball burned shirts........

My original shins were hand me downs. No padding behind the shell. Took a pitch straight to the shin. Made a dent in the guard that rubbed my leg and had to replace a week later. Larry Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
