  1. Unwritten Rule: When you make a call, make a call. Don't spend the next minute explaining to everyone in earshot why you made the call.
  2. You mean the coaches don't like to wait until after you are doing brushing off the plate to call the time out for the mound visit. I get that a LOT!!
  3. I couldn't disagree more. There is no quicker way to ensure yourself a bad night from a coach that to go over and be exchanging jokes and courtesies with a coach or player on his opposing team. He all of a sudden thinks that you are out there against him. I've got my former HS this weekend, and I'm sure they will hate me (doesn't help that I really didn't care too much for going to school there anyways).
  4. Woah, flights? We talking island hopping flights or other flights?
  5. Come on, get after them. We had our slow-pitch clinic in the pouring rain. Anyways, welcome, bud!
  6. I wouldn't be willing to try to find this out. If a parent gets a good lawyer, they can find a way to make it happen. This is why in some leagues if you read your insurance contracts, you will notice that you have liability.
  7. Hell, you get crushed in the larynx, you won't have to worry about singing.........period!
  8. Baseball careers can end in an instant, extra education can last forever.
  9. Yes, but I believe unless the runner goes back and touches first before going to second the defense can still appeal the out.
  10. The only secret sign I've ever used with a partner was a secret "look at the rack on that mom" signal. It worked in our favor.
  11. What is the name of the custom mouth guard?
  12. The meetings I go to say you give the coaches 10 min. to come up with the rule, and if they can't, you go on with not another word.
  13. You really thought the Tanel's were too wide? I had a pair of those and they actually killed my feet because they were way too narrow!
  14. Mo, as a Missouri umpire I can tell you that in the two regions I've worked (Rolla Area and Poplar Bluff area) the plate umpire takes the call. This is something that in most cases I discuss with my partner in pre-game. The reason being that if the base umpire goes out to make the call, he/she is supposed to stay in the outfield until all plays are over, thus making the play revert to a 1 umpire system, which most do not like. This is done for only routine outs, though. During the pre-game I speak with my partner and let him know (if I am in the field) that if I go out he/she's got the bases and should watch for all 3 tag-ups (and then be prepared to revert to a 1 man system as I am staying in the outfield as stated before).
  15. I found this post on "Bad Night For Me" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month April, 2010"
  16. Don't worry, they're only going to expect you to be perfect the first time, and improve apon that every time afterwards!!
  17. Awesome!

    what a day

It's ok, Dick Head isn't a bad word, or bad set of words.
  19. I still think the nutty buddy episode was better!
  20. Is the batter not supposed to have both feet out of the box to be considered out of the box?
  21. But did the coach recognize this?
  22. New question. If you eject a player from throwing a bat who made it to first, are they then out, or do they get a replacement runner?
  23. Glad to hear you could make it through your game. I had three games one night, hottest day of the summer, me sick and couldn't make it. I finished my first game but had to get a replacement in for games 2&3.
  24. Guess that is also an area of where FED baseball differs from FED softball.
  25. I had some high school girls warming up in the outfield one time between innings and when the ball was thrown down the right fielder hurled the ball to the first base coach, only one problem, she forgot to look before she threw. I felt the wind come off the ball and heard the seems cutting across the wind as out of the corner of my eye a blur of yellow passes by and safely into the visiting team's dugout.
