Nah.......my community is still too lo-tech for that. The only way they typically get put in the newspaper is either one of two ways: 1) They play a bigger school that typically gets paper coverage. 2) The coach does a write up for the local paper after the ball game.

No, I agree with what you are saying, but I am saying that you need to make sure everyone knows why he is going to the parking lot. If you just eject the coach without letting the young kid know why you just ejected the coach, then the kid still drills him, not knowing the reason you ejected the coach was for what he said to the catcher originally, then who is really to blame?

The way I was taught is that the line is considered inside the lines. I guess this can be traced back to the batters box issue. If a batter hits the ball while stepping on the front line, he is still supposed to be declared in the box.

It really won't matter unless you make a public statement to the coach and players, anyways. The coach has already told the kid what to do, so unless you make sure the kid knows that what the coach told him is wrong, he's still going to do it.

I thought this, too, at first. Then I re-read the OP. It stated that the players foot was on the line. I have been taught, as long as their foot is touching the line, they are to be considered within the runner's lane.

I got to see a good catcher's interference. The batter swings and the catcher's glove comes flying off back towards the pitcher. The PU comes to me saying, I couldn't see catcher's interference (all this while the catcher is picking up his mitt and putting it back on), did you see it. I look at him and said, yep, though I was busy tracking the ball.

Another tip we used to do (if you aren't currently doing it) is have the morning guy do two games behind the plate on Saturday. This usually allows one guy to get two games out during the cooler morning hours, and makes there only be one game in the heat (if it does get too hot).

Honestly, with the way things are going, if you can't organize all of the umpires together, I'd be finding a new league to officiate in. The most important thing that an umpire can have is a board that understands exactly what it is the umpires have to go through. Does your board not have the league UIC on it?
