  1. If a manager comes out acting like this, he's not going to get an umpire to go for help from his partner(s). Similar situation to what happened to Don Mattingly on that gross miss pulled foot at first base call. Histrionics gets you nowhere!
  2. Good call. No problems for the Nats, however, as they sweep the Bosox. And didn't Bobby V. get tossed by Alan Porter with 2 outs in the ninth for arguing balls and strikes?
  3. It's the Sheldon Cooper look.
  4. NICE FIND !!!! But, ...where is his mitt? I'm not saying the call is right or not ....but it's still not conclusive. You need to see a 3blx view.... I was thinking more like where's the umpire?
  5. I thought this was an "interesting" photo.
  6. Just a guess: 1. He didn't think there would be a play, so he is out of position 2. He moved up to clear the bat and couldn't get back into position
  7. Bob knows he doesn't need any more problems right now - but you know he was thinking about it!
  8. I thought Joe West was going to make a version of his cp's with a pocket to hold the pads???

    Coach visits

I hate when the coach asks "Can I appeal that?" Especially when shouted across the field. No coach. You can appeal a missed base. You can appeal a re-touch on a caught fly ball. You can appeal a check swing. You can not appeal my judgment on a whacker at first.

  11. I like this color. Looks good with a black hat and black ball bags!

    Fake Tag

You're right scrounge - I read the case play too quickly.

    Fake Tag

See case play 8.3.2 B. Not exactly the same but the award is always "at least one base beyond....." In the OP, the obstruction occurred at third base, so I am awarding home.

  15. I have been twice, the last time was Memorial Day weekend several years ago. I chaperoned a school trip with my son who was to document his trip and make a poster. The entire Mall was loaded with veterans, but the WW II Memorial was just absolutely packed with them. We spent a lot of time there just in complete awe of the experience. When I saw my son's poster, he had a candid photo of a Pearl Harbor survivor with the caption, "A Living Memorial."
  16. I remember watching a little bit of that game live on tv last summer, and then later learning it was you on the dish.
  17. Last night HT up 5-4 in TOP of 7 and I'm cruising to a sub-2hr. JV game. Final score 19-5 VT and 3+ hours. :banghead:

  19. Please Mike, elaborate. We love your stories!
  20. The rule is found at the TOP of page 56 in note 2 "the umpire shall not decalre the game over until all runners have advanced to the next base" That's what I was looking for but couldn't find. This apparently happened in a HS game in another district earlier this week. Would you deal with it as semper suggests, or some other way?
  21. Tie game, bottom of last inning. Bases loaded, less than 2 outs, batter is HBP. R3 advances and touches home but the batter and no other runners advance and touch. Game over? (FED)
  22. I usually pick a spot on the outfield fence or a light pole or something and square my head and shoulders to it (shortstops move, light poles don't). Then when I go down and lock in, I move only my eyes to the pitcher so that when the ball comes across the plate I am looking at it with both eyes. This is what I was taught at a clinic by a D1 umpire and it has helped me from both sides of the plate.
  23. #1 Regular Douglas #2 Douglas-Douglas (with gap protection) #3 New All-star (For compairson) Ok, how come you look WAY smaller in number 2 ?!? I said the same thing when I saw the photos. I think it is because of the "T" hooks on the Douglas-Douglas. The T hooks pull the lower rib plate close to the body. On the regular Douglas, the plastic buckles connect to the padding. This causes the ends of the lower plate to detach from the padding, making it look bigger. Where did you get the "T" hooks? Did Douglas do that for you too?
