You look just as stupid tucking your mask in as you would using the clip and perhaps even more so. +1 Just hold the darn mask! He was just kidding (I hope)!

Just for fun. Gibson.

It's black. It's just not "as black" as his shirt.

I think it was more like the umpires are in play-off behavior mode. If this was a regular season game, you would be 5 bucks to the good.

I didn't see the replay last night, but I thought he was safe in real time. Thanks for posting that.

Well, not really. I used it more for alliterative purposes in the post title.

After I read (and read, and read, and read some more) Kevin's constant praise of the poly-wools, I broke down and bought a pair of plate and base pants for this year. Kevin speaks the truth. That being said, I know that Jim Kirk at Ump-Attire is almost ready to release his pants. He previewed them on his Facebook page in late summer. I suspect they will be of great quality. I know that one difference will be an adjustable waistband of some sort. Maybe he will chime in and release a few more details.

Another great analysis by Gil of UEFL on LaRussa's whining about "two different strike zones" in the dugout last night. http://bleacherrepor...es-up-in-philly

Announcers complain that McLelland is maybe too far away. I don't necessarily think so, but he may have had a poor angle for this particular play. Apparently, at least according to Girardi, McLelland was having a rough night! Girardi knows better than to count calls - I think he had enough.

Mike, Here's an interesting article about the whole thing. Yes, he did get the win. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/851220-clayton-kershaw-why-dodgers-ace-cy-young-candidate-was-ejected

I have seen titanium golf clubs (drivers especially) give off sparks when they are swept across the ground on a swing. I don't know if this is related at all, but I would hardly call that a sweeping blow!

According to Brooks Baseball, which is responsible for producing the graph: "The outside edges of the strikezone are then drawn to specifications corresponding to an average umpire's strikezone." The box is not the "actual" strikezone," but a very close approximation based on the varied heights of batters and the average umpire's strike zone. Then, of course, there is the "special rule" that UEFL uses to determine if the pitch was "close enough" to be called a strike even if it appears out of the strike zone on the graph. Also remember that camera angles and lens magnification also distort what you see on TV, and that the strike zone is actually three dimensional, and................(on and on and on). Great pitch by a good pitcher that was close enough to be called a strike.

And if I might add.... A very congenial toss of Gonzalez - almost like he was told he was going to get run if he didn't stop, and he said OK you're gonna have to toss me then.

At what point do you call this b/r out? http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=18966351&topic_id=9780550&c_id=mlb (fixed link)

Some wanted an EJ for unsportsmanlike conduct on F1, saying the trip of BR was on purpose. Imagine the s--t storm that would have caused!

I was working from home that day, sitting at the computer. My wife was out delivering the children to school and called to tell me a plane had flown in to the WTC. I shrugged it off as a light plane, but she called back to tell me about the second one. Only then did I decide to turn the TV on. As others have mentioned, it was surreal. I can't think of any other way to describe it. The news of the attack on the Pentagon suddenly made that 150 mile distance from my house to DC seem a whole lot shorter. At one point that afternoon I stepped out on to my back deck and was looking towards the northeast. The sky was beautifully blue and clear, with not even the wisp of a cloud - except for a single jet contrail. I remember that it didn't go straight, but purposefully snaked across the sky.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ that picture certainly looks like he got it .....not saying he did, just saying from the angle it does look like he got it It also shows that the ump had a great look. If he missed it from there, shame on him.

My daughter was shopping for her textbooks for fall semester at college yesterday and made the comment that baseball bats were the No. 1 seller on Amazon. Now I can tell her why!

Actually, it is a zipper - used to replace the nifty new cooling packs the umps wear under their chest protectors.

http://www.sportsgri...o-eject-umpire/ I actually saw Stubby play AAA ball. I remember thinking, with a name lilke Stubby Clapp, he was destined for a minor league career. I thought someone might recognize Jeff Andrews (HPU) or his partner from the video. Good call BTW.

So did Dante Bichette. His son is now in the Yankees farm system (Gulf Coast League).
