  1. I'm trying to get through to customer service and various companies. Does anyone have any hints, or maybe a "top 25 list" of how to do so?
  2. I should add -- train your eyes on tracking. Lie on your back and toss a tennis ball or a rolled up pair if sock up in the air and track it all the way down to your hands.
  3. And, PU and / or U1 can glance at R3 before the ball gets to the glove to see that R3 is on the base. You won't have a gross miss.
  4. 1) I obviously haven't seen your stance, but try moving back an inch or two. The low pitch is harder to see if you ar looking down through the zone. 2) Make sure you are working low enough. The higher you are, the steeper the angle. 3) Glance at the batter's knees as you get in your stance. It will give you an idea of how far our eyes need to move to get to the bottom of the zone. 4) More reps.
  5. It's like VB or (in reverse) BK -- if the ball itself doesn't hit the line it's out (well, in, in BK) .
  6. FED has similar interps (I'm away from the books so I can't cite them)
  7. I might give some leeway if it's the trailing foot that is outside the base -- it's tough to fit the entire body in that space. But if the runner is trying to be safe, the lead foot will go directly to the base -- it's the quickest way (given that he is sliding) to reach the base. Putting the lead foot outside the base and into F4 makes this illegal, imo. Wonder if the NCAA will come out with something.
  8. If we stop rewarding the action (i.e., if we stop calling OBS) then the action / tactic will stop.
  9. Yep. And the story you got in the game was from the other end of the horse.
  10. Didn't follow the link, but BU can get RLI (when in A)
  11. Agreed. But this was NOT initiating malicious contact. NFW. Any conversation about that should last less than 5 seconds.
  12. Assuming the ball hit the hands first, it's a strike and a dead ball. No appeal needed (or allowed).
  13. Nope. It's a rules issue. If you know the rule, you won't balk it. If you don't know the rule, you might.
  14. Two schools of thought: 1) Go up the line o you are closer and the catch, and so F2 doesn't block you. But, you have to look way over your left shoulder to see R3. 2) Back up on 1BLE so you are still on the line for fair/foul and have a less-than-90* turn to see R3. Either can work, but whichever you choose, the gods will conspire so the other choice would have been better.
  15. If a runner misses the plate and is attempting to return, he must be tagged. BR is no longer "overruning first" -- so it's just like any other runner off a base -- must be tagged to be out.
  16. Depending on the specific timing of the play, the skill of the umpires, and U1's ability to move, U1 can help with the tag-up at third. He can move to a deep C type position to get U1 in his peripheral vision, or he can glance over his shoulder from B at the moment the ball is touched -- U1 can get eyes to R3 more quickly than PU can get his eyes there. In all this, U1 has to be sure not to give up his primary responsibilities.
  17. Because it doesn't look good to run out to the mound To break up the meeting in order to get back to the game.
  18. NFW is this MC. Also, NFW is this OBS.
  19. Depends on the rules code. Allowed in OBR. Not allowed in FED (but hurdling the outstretched arms is allowed)
  20. Drops or fails to catch? The former implies (or can be interpreted as) "catches and then lets go"
  21. There is (or was) a thought that BU should be closest to the lead runner. Most now have BU in B in your situation. I'd ask your local association. For the record, I think B is the correct choice here, with a *possible* exception if you know a team likes to try to pick off at third a lot.
  22. Since the catcher's THROW did not retire the RUNNER, I'm going with that and the better gets away with one.
  23. "caleb -- if you think the batter is too deep, just ask me and I'll draw in the back of the box. But, I can't have you drawing it in after the fact -- you know how bad that looks."
  24. In the recent past (maybe last summer), wasn't there some discussion about pitchers who did not take a full windup in an attempt to fool the batter (not a quick pitch)? Did any of that guidance help with the current play (i.e., did any of that guidance talk about a step to the plate)? I don't recall; just trying to see if there's something more clear out there.
  25. I think I wasn't clear. I think all codes *should* rule as NCAA does -- the act of tagging the base caused the ball to come out and the runner should be safe
