I’m interested to know if anyone has returned to officiating or umpiring after having spinal fusion surgery. If you’ve had serious spine issues that required surgery, I’d like to hear about your experience—specifically, whether you were able to return to officiating once you had recovered, and if you faced any challenges in doing so Over the past year, I’ve had two laminectomies with spinal fusion—one in my cervical spine (6 level fusion) and one in my lumbar spine (4 level fusion). I’m still recovering and continue to experience some challenges, including occasional balance issues, difficulty walking (I’m not able to run yet), and several neurological symptoms caused by nerves that were pinched and haven’t fully healed. Despite these challenges, I feel like I’m getting closer to a breakthrough and hope to possibly return to officiating this summer or next year, if it’s safe to do so. My doctor is optimistic and says I’m actually healthier and more protected now with the fusion than I was before surgery. Still, it would mean a lot to hear from those of you who have been through this—your firsthand experiences and advice would be invaluable as I consider my next steps. Thank you in advance. For fun, here’s a couple x-rays showing my new titanium supports!

LOL me too... it burns for a while and you don't forget it for a long time to make sure it doesn't happen again. -
US Manager Didn't Realize Team Didn't Make Knockout Round - SMH

There would be a certain poetic justice if this over-hyped team of superstars failed to advance past the first round. The irony would be even richer if their downfall came at the hands of a country that rarely comes to mind when discussing baseball—unless, of course, you're talking about meatballs the size of baseballs! I'd love to see Team USA approach this tournament with the same passion and commitment that the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and other top teams bring. For those countries, this is their World Series—you can see it in their intensity, their preparation, and their national pride. Meanwhile, the U.S. opens with an unproven starter? It sends the wrong message in my opinion. I wish we could field the best players America has to offer, not just a handful of offensive superstars filling out a roster. And yes, I know we had two top pitchers also... but one came in only offering one start, just one game for a few innings out of an entire tournament. And no disrespect to Skubal—he's talented—but if you're not willing to commit fully to this team, then I don't need you for just one start. I want players who are all in for the entire run. I get it: he's protecting his career, his health, his future payday. That's his right. But from a team-building perspective, what good is one start when there are still five to seven games left to win it all? Then there's Kershaw. He's taking up a roster spot, yet by all accounts, he'll only pitch if absolutely no one else is available. So why bring him at all—especially now that Skubal has headed back to Tigers camp? That's a wasted spot that could've gone to another starter or a reliable long-relief arm. Not the best managerial decision, in my opinion... but what do I know? 🙂 On the plus side of things, I haven't heard or seen an angry word about any umpire missed calls thus far. -
@orangebird Please accept my apologies for hi-jacking the thread.
