I used to work a HS in the Burbank area (north of LA where all the movie studios are at... yes the are in Burbank, not Hollywood) that the coach would teach his catcher to try and draw a BI by intentionally moving ever so slightly into the batter. It was a good trick but we all knew about it. The problem comes that with this little trick of theirs it probably cost them actual BI because we knew they tried to draw the BI instead of it actually happening.

Gentlemen, Doesnt the runner still have responsibility to come back and tag 2nd? This runner was obstructed leaving second and never tagged up. So thusly this should be an appeal play that he never tagged up. You call OBS. At the end of the play (in all codes) call time and enforce the OBS. Now the defense has the ability to say "wait, he never tagged up. We want to appeal this" you now call him out for failing to do his job as a runner in the first place. Since the OBS in the OP did not prevent R2 from coming back and touching the bag then I believe we must allow the appeal and call R2 out for failing to tag up.

I use one on the plate. Leave it in the car on the bases. Just my personal preference. Especially when I am on a field with a working score board. However, I found myself and my partner in a "pickle" during a college game when neither of us knew the proper number of outs and I got caught unaware of a time play (thought there was none or one out and there happened to be two... Ooops!) Just a note. A mentor of mine works for the Big West and they require the base guys to carry an indicator on the field.

A standard out/safe call is not one of the 7 reasons to get help from your partner. from what I understand from the OP I would not get help unless for some reason I was blocked out from the play... In other words, this is my call not his and Im sticking to it.

for college the field MUST be lined and MUST be lined correctly. If not then you wait to start until they do it right. If they cant get to the equipment (like I had one game this year when the batters boxes were drawn wrong) then play the game and inform your association liason of the problem.

had a fellow JuCo umpire (worked his first college post season game three weeks ago) kill a balk in a college preseason game this year. But it is excuseable, he is the HS association president... LOL

I was going to say. In my area it is the same thing. I let the assignor decide to works the plate and who is on the bases. For a DH the assignor lists the position for the first game and we switch for the second. Takes all the trouble out of a constant back and forth of "you want to do the plate?" "no, you do it." "no thats ok." and so on. :givebeer:

However I noticed that there was not any california schools listed on the school list and only a hand full of schools in the Oregon/Washington area that are on that list. I was wondering if there was a different championship those teams play in?

How bout the RH F1 doing a jump turn in which he does not gain ground? Or the one where the LF F1 does not disengage the rubber nor step towards first but mearly throws to first.

I have NEVER seen a league that has a mercy rule that does not allow equal number of atbats unless the home team is winning. I also want to add that certain states (READ CALIFORNIA HERE) actually have separate districts (ex. Northern and Southern Section, San Francisco, LA, etc.). I know for a fact that LA Section has a 10 run mercy rule for all levels and that SS and LA use a mercy rule for all JV games. However SS and NS both allow different leagues to adopt the mercy rule or not for varsity games. Its enough to want to and oh yeh, and :bang:

NCAA states that you can change a foul ball to a fair ball in the case of a home run and thats about it. Especially a no no with multiple runners on.

Ump-Attire has the powder blue shirts as well as navy in the new ultimate umpire shirts. He said he should have black, MLB blue (with the black collar), cream and what ever other colors he wants to carry by sometime next year before the start of the season.

Had this on monday. Im UIC. Batter tries to check his swing. I say he went. OHC (who is at first coaching) wants to know if I can ask for help. I say no. He looks shocked. Asks again. I say no. Turns to my parter and asks "did he go?" I tell the coach not to do that. He turns, says sorry and shuts up.

Both NCAA (positive) and FED (somewhat positive) have instituted a "post game ejection" option. Dragon, only thing I would do is maybe tell the kid that you are issuing a post game ejection so everything is clear what is going on.
