JJB, only thing I can say is Good for your new umpire. Way to go. The other thing I will say is for the kid to only warn once. Warning twice will allow the coach to get a second and third shot in that he shouldnt get.
I will repost this as I have said it before.
In the college association I am in told us during the middle of this season. They want us to tell the coach "coach, this is your official warning on (enter infraction here). If you continue with this arguement I will be forced to eject you from the game."
This is a nice and simple warning. Leaves no question as to if it is a warning or not and what will happen if the conversation continues.
Easy toss. As soon as the arms fully extend away from the body and the hands go to the face you dump the pitcher (still call the out though). As for the BR, it would depend on his reaction to the pitcher and how agressive he goes after him. Didnt look like he was being overly so towards the pitcher.
However, I do also wonder where the umpires are. The minute there is a shot to the face someone should have been there to make sure nothing further happens.
as BU i will more often than not watch above the waist as my central focus. Mainly the glove, shoulders and any possible lean the pitcher may do.
on the plate its the whole body. When the pitcher makes a move to first I will usually concentrate on the feet since my BU doesnt have the time to do that.
Thats fine too. Thats a lot higher than a lot of us have gotten. We have guys on here from former MLB/MiLB guys, to guys that teach at the umpire schools... all the way down to guys that are still yet to work their first game (and yes even some rats join in... im talking to you CoachJM:wave:LOL)
Keep posting with any great info you have and for that matter, keep doing what you are doing.
I asked Jim this same question about two weeks ago and he told me they should have the rest of the colors by the beginning of next year. Here in SoCal a lot of the guys are going to the MLB blue with the black collar so I am dying having to use my honigs for one more season.
If they are buying you the shirts its not so bad since the money doesnt come out of your pocket. If it does, then do what you have to do.
I found this post on "Warren's Response to the Author, Angel Melendez was...." interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month May, 2009"
I dont think she actually went IN to the dugout. The OP says stood by it. And most of the LL/Pony/etc. leagues I know, the dugouts are made of chainlink fences so parents are ALWAYS over there playing coach.
I say why not let the lady do something good instead of letting dad confuse the kids from the stands.
I like what the college association I belong to was instructed to say.
"Coach, this is your official warning on (enter infraction here, i.e. balls/strikes/safes/outs). If you continue to argue I will have no choice but to eject you from the game."
this is great cause there is no question in his mind what is being said and what will happen if he continues. That and you got yourself a concrete warning issued.
I replaced my K1 (does anyone see a trend here with this CP?) with a WV Gold some 6 or 7 years ago. I looked at the GD protectors and at the Platinum. I finally settled on the Gold and will NEVER turn back.
Only thing is... on your Craigslist post, you didnt put a price. Im not in the market to buy unless i absolutely need to, but a price would be nice.
You can also go to MLB.com and look on there. The MLB umpire hats sell for around $30 and the "stars and stripes" umpire hat goes for just over $35 or so.
I too will echo Dave about the lint problem with the honigs jackets. However I like the zip up collar and had a heck of a time finding the jackets I wanted with it.
Whats strange is that on umpire.org forum there is a post from Dan Parsons saying they are back up and running... of course it could not actually be mr. parsons... but then again.
As for Honigs shirts, I have decided that the ones I now own will be last ones. All my shirts from now on will be the Ultimate shirts from Ump-Attire. Man I hope they dont do anything to the polywool pants. Best damn pants available.
Its the reason you dont see (unless you are very lucky) what many people think was the best hard shell protector ever made, the Riddell Power, on sale any more.
I attended a Dodger/Giants game for my the big 3-0 earlier this month. That makes a tie for the number of baseball games Ive attended.
Also planning on making it to an Angel game and a GBL (Golden Baseball League independent minor league) or two here in Long Beach before I leave. Then I really want to attend a Portland Beavers game when I get up there.
In my junior year of high school we played a game at a school without an outfield fence. One of our best hitters hits a ball into the left-center gap out of no where a dog runs onto the field and picks up the ball and takes off.
Was pretty damn funny but cost us an inside the parker.
Im working a league based out of Orange County, CA and it is the most friendly league I have ever worked.
All the players know each other and hang out with each other. No cursing or yelling at each other. Its been really strange.
I agree with Warren. Most associations, especially in places like Florida, Arizona, California and Texas where they play ball year round.
My guess is you will need to work a year or two of varsity baseball before you get into the college games.
evidently there have been a couple of new guys breaking into the majors. One is in the video on the other site (and probably on here but I havent gotten to it yet) where he looked like he was asking Jerry Layne about ejecting Dave Trombley. The other one I have heard about was a kid that got his first plate job at Dodger Stadium this past week.
