I alot of the HOK thing is that it is taught as a standard instruction at clinics. That way everyone is on equal footing. I used to walk into my set when A position with no one on. I was told to go to a HOK set before instead of walking in to my set since that is what the evaluators and coordinators in my area want. So now I do it.

A couple years ago I was working the bases during a HS varsity summer ball game. Ground ball to F6 who tosses it to F4 at second and on the first for your normal 6-4-3 DP. Only problem is that the batter was three or four steps beyond first base when F3 caught the ball. I punched the kid out and immediately knew I screwed the pooch. The DHC, who was known to be a bit of a hot head, comes out. I meet him half way and he calmly asks me "Arik, you know you kicked that call right?". I tell him "yes, I did." He quietly says to me "ok, well make sure we keep our head in the game." I tell him sure thing and he walks away. I couldnt get mad at him cause I know I kicked it really bad.

I dont have that many games this year but have already took one hit with my new Diamond Silver mask. Seems like it did its job and cant wait for that one REAL hit to come.

I've worn glasses for the last 14 years. Which means that Ive worn them for most of my umpiring career. I started wearing contacts about 7 or 8 years ago and really want the lasik. Im going to have to save for it though and hope that my insurance can help too.

B) I stopped reading after Brian's first post. Not the kind of thing you want to read when trying to go on a diet. thats for now :WTF -
We have a couple guys that have done that in the HS group I belong to. Its something I would like to start doing when I get older and have to think about hanging them up.
-
Nr, I recommend hooking in with one of the local HS associations or such and acting as an evaluator and trainer. That way you are still in and around the game (just not on the field) and you can impart your knowledge and wisdom on other umpires that can use it.

I work as a poker dealer. Talk about a job that people get mad at you just about as much as working as an umpire.
-
I would be willing to handle what ever extra charge it would be for me to get the channel. Now just to have Dish comply with my request.
-
I think they are owned by the same company... maybe not. Anyways I want my MLB network but sounds like for now it will involve many trips to the inlaws and their DirectTV connection.
-
Ok, thats just rubbing salt in the wound. LOL
-
Ok, so I have dish and they dont carry MLBnetwork. So it looks like I need to spend time at the inlaws that do have DirectTV and MLBnetwork. I guess you have to take the good with the bad right?
-
:I agree. Man they will let anyone in here! LOL:bang:

I would love to have my calls tracked. Especially since I havent had the chance to work many games over the last two years and I want to make sure I am giving my best. -
JM, That is also a NCAA rule and also appears in the NCAA test (I had it both times I took it and got it right both times.)
-
JM, Since I am have not made it to D1 yet the first section doesnt matter to me. However I just talked to a mentor of mine in my association (shortly after I read what you posted) and he told me that our assignor does use the tests to see who has a grasp on the rules and will use it also in selecting post season assignments for our area.
-
I did take it again. Got one extra question right so I got an 84% my second time. Now the question is, what does passing the test do?:
-
Finally know your name Brian. Hope all is well and welcome to this message board.

No HS this year for me due to work. However I do have 10 college games (once again cause of my work schedule) but hopefully I can pick up more.
-
does anyone have a video of the interference? I dont get MLB TV nor ESPN Deportes.

Yeh yeh yeh. You know Ive been hearing that crap for the last 20 years. I was at my parents computer store getting ready to listen to Game 3 that year and it was scary as hell for me too at the age of 10. (I know I was 10 because we moved to the central valley at the end of that year and I played my first year of baseball the next year at the age of 11). Imagine my issues Ive had. My best friend growing up, die-hard A's fan. My best man at my wedding, hard-core dodger fan... not only that but growing up in the bay area and now living down here in LA is tough man. Only saving grace is that Long Beach is Angel territory seeing as its only about 20 minutes (w/o traffic to "The Big A") and 45 minutes to Dodger Stadium.

Ive used the tack-it before. Worked for me one year, lost the original bottle, bought a new one and didnt work as well. IF you do use it make sure you put it on the patch the night before. I have a long sleeve navy shirt that was ruined cause I put the tack it on the patch right before my game. I decided to sew two HS patches onto two navy shirts (one plate one base) and just use those since the jacket isnt used come playoff time.

And then if you have a wife that likes to order like 3 or 4 shoes from them at a time you can get an extra members discount of like 8 or 10% on top of. I just wish she got that when I got my 450s.
-
Warren, Gene McArtor (sic?) did this at the start of the NCAA meeting in San Diego and I have been looking for it. Thanks for finally helping me find it.
-
The answer is plate umpire. I know this cause I got it wrong on the test and it was either U1 or PU and I picked U1. As for being able to take it more than once... I hope I can. I got only an 82 and I want to get better.
