  1. I get that coaches sometimes have to make a show. But on a play like that? I hope you told him to pick his spots better...
  2. Not something to which I've given much thought. I see lefty-catchers in HS ball. I don't do college - for those of you who do - do you see many? http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/44139204/
  3. A little whistle with a point at the pitcher.
  4. What is this "softball" of which you speak?
  5. "Coach, do you really want to go there? You won't like it there"

    FED FPSR rule...

Whoa Grayhawk. The FPSR is ALWAYS in effect when there's a force. It doesn't require a slide, but the provisions of the rules are in effecet. Unless I'm missing something, I think the answers are F, F T. I could post the text of the rule, but isn't the rule pretty clear?
  7. we know.... You hate the little bas*ards. It's not always hate. Well, for bam, yes, it's hate. Or at least strong dislike. I mean, I generally don't like people much, either, a lot of the time, for a myriad number of reasons, so I get where he's coming from. But other than the blind fury of hatred of his fellow man, there's another reasom bam's philosophy works: players and coaches will be your best buddy, until they aren't. And then you're the worst $%^#@#%$ that ever %^&*#ing called a $%&(#$# game. And I can't stand that kind of two-faced-ness; if I'm talking to you in a jovial manner in everyday life, I'm NOT two seconds away from spewing venom at you, or telling you that you suck. Sorry if I expect other people to act that way. So, by keeping them at arm's length, I avoid that kind of nonsense. So I tend to spend my games in near-silence. As always, YMMV. Uh.... yeah. This is 1 plus 1 stuff. You're ALWAYS exactly one call from being the stupidest, blindest, dumbest m-fer on the planet. I LIKE my partners. I LIKE the game. I LIKE being outside, in the sunshine. Players and coaches suck.
  8. He was definitely straightlined, but sicnce I don't know 4-man mechanics I have no idea where he should have been
  9. Must be Texas.
  10. Give me the bat-thrower any day. The hockey players know you're there but don't give a SH*#. Half the time, after they hit you, they'll say "get the f$@k out of the way!" Pricks.

"pretty good until"??? It was only bottom 2! "You're terrible" should have been enough to EJ.
  12. Why would you want to talk to them? How many of them have anything to say? Best case scenario - if an infielder says anything to me, I act like I didn't hear it.
  13. Serious question - Does he need to wrap the leg with high impact foam or other such padding? 2-1-8: ART. 8 . . . Hard and unyielding items (guards, casts, braces, splints, etc.) must be padded with a closed-cell, slow-recovery foam padding no less than 1/2" thick. Knee and ankle braces which are unaltered from the manufacturer's original design/production do not require any additional padding
  14. Why did he drill the linesman? Just becasue he saw the stripes? Hit the ref, for Christ's sake! They get paid the big bucks.
  15. Oh yeah. That's got to be it.
  16. I think so, too. Made it a much easier sell.
  17. So, you are advocating that runners put themselves in a disadvantageous position to make your job easier? Do your job and umpire. That will involve having to make some tough judgments. If you want to coach, go be a coach. I've got to tell you - I'm baffled by this statement. YOU are advocating for the runner to make the umpire's job easier by sliding. I don't get it. Even if the bases were loaded and FPSR were ini effect, the fielder is not protected in front of a base. The rule is very clear. A runner doesn't have to slide. If a player without possession of the ball steps inito his path, in FED, by rule, it's OBS. In OBR, if the ball brings the fielder into the runners path, it's a train wreck. What's the NCAA ruling here? I'm thinking train wreck? Also, why is the umpire banging the player out in this situation? The catcher never had the ball. There was a couple shoves and then the hammer. Edited ^^ - now I see the pitcher tag runner. N/M
  18. FED - obstruction NCAA - ? OBR - play on, playa

That is posted in every home, visiting and umpire's dressing room in ever professional ballpark. Olney represents everything that is wrong with baseball. He's in bed with everyone - players, management and agents. He is, by any definition, a whore. Give me the old days where players sharpened their spikes and waited for umpires in the back alley. Wait. What?
  23. Agreed, and I would have called it a catch judging from the video but slo-mo proves it wrong. Does this mean you favor IR for catch/no catch calls?
  24. My point was that if FED deems this to be an illegal stance, then there's no penalty for stepping incorrectly out of an illegal stance. I realize that's a minor point, but we picked the same nits with that IBB quesiton on the FED test. If I've got to enforce this, I will. But what I won't do is balk a kid for not stepping off with his pivot foot to correct the stance. He's gaining no advantage. Heck - I try not to see it when a kid gets into the windup after a base hit then steps off with the wrong foot to channge to the stretch. Just becasue I know it's a technical balk doesn't mean I have to call it. That kind of call makes me look bad. Rules gurus may not agree, but these are the ways to ruin a perfectly good game.
  25. Although the stance is illegal for either position I can't see calling a balk until he either sets or starts a wind-up. As already noted, he has the option to step off and fixing it. Why does he have to step off? He's not in. legal position, either wind up or set, according to FED. Another POE emphasis this year is getting lineup cards in every division from varsity down to MS. I don't know which is going to be a bigger PITA. Well find out this week.
