  1. I have a P210 and a WV Platinum. I'd wear either for HS ball. Get the biceps protectors.
  2. Between you and me, this attitude is the worst to have as an umpire. If you have any aspirations in moving up in officiating, my advice is for you to learn that incidents on the field are water under a bridge. Changing your style toward a coach due to past incidents will only make you look like a fool. The same goes for him, too -- if he wants to hold a grudge from a game in the past, he'll look like the ass on the field. 100% agree. Each game is its own entity. Runs, outs, innings don't carry over. Neither should any sentiment (good or bad). Bygones, myy friend. It's more than professionalism, it's character as well. Can't be a good umpire with a chip on your shoulder and drawing lines in the sand. That only goes so far. Prior knowledge is a valuable resource. I'm nit saying that you go looking for trouble the next time you see Coach Douchebag, but it's helpful to know going in that the coach is a jerk, or that the last item these two teams met there was a problem, or that a player on team A stole the girlfriend of a player on team B, or that team A drilled team B in basketball three weeks ago, etc. So while each game should start fresh, I say forewarned is forearmed.
  3. Seriously? That's wxactly what happened to me my first LL game this year... No waiy. That was just a bad dream.
  4. Fist time I got to see a field! It was great! I was horse$h1t - strike zone was good, but movement was terrible - I stayed home on a double play - R1 only - when I should have gotten out front, froze a couple times on line drives to the gaps, but it was glorious....
  5. It's either CI or BI, depending on where F2 receives the ball. Both awards are obvious.
  6. Why did they put it up sideways?
  7. I'm still looking at 3" of snow on the ground.
  8. How "projected" do you want to get? Coach hands you a lineup and tells you #8 is going in for #12 in the bottom of the 2d and will come out in the top of the fifth. And #2 is going to go in defensively in the 2d at first for #7. Oh! And #17 is going to play 4 innings becasue he's got a band concert, so #5 is going to go in for him then. Got all that?

"OK coach, we'll start when you can confirm that"
  10. JM caught my joke. I was half expecting Jax to respond, so I could go Foghorn Leghorn on him again......
  11. Me to my rules interpreter : "The language in B clearly makes that answer incorrect" My RI: "What, are you a f^&king Englsih teacher? The answer is D!" End of discussion.
  12. NCAA and OBR. Not fed. Right?
  13. The Hoberman Sphere is easier to call from behind the mound.
  14. If you're close enough to touch the player you're calling out or safe, I'd say you're a little TOO close.
  15. Well, so much for "any" answer being correct:
  16. Here: And I know - green and red are reversed - wait - maybe I got them ALL wrong...
  17. All I know is the correct answer is D. Both B and C should say "may" not "must" but this is FED.
  18. D. How do I know? I did the test. How much overthinking is going on here? Both B and C are correct. In order to walk a batter the pithcer MUST throw 4 balls OR request an IBB at any time.
  19. That ASS7 is never going to feel right to you. Better that you get rid of it and be done with it. I'll give you $20.00. You pay the shipping.
  20. How do I know what my BU is trying to sell the coach? Was he that loud about t it that you could hear them from 100 feet away? So if I don't know why he balked F1 how am I supposed to "GET THE CALL RIGHT!"?
  21. From the fine print of the diagram in post 8: A number of pitchers are starting a pitch from this hybrid position. This position is illegal since it does not meet the criteria of EITHER THE WINDUP or set position. All of us except me and the NFHSAA. The BalkHawk SHAN'T be fooled! My comment was in response to Bam who said see post 16, which is the post that shows a legal windup position . My point is that NOBODY is gaining an advantage on this. Make them (somehow) do it right. FED wants to make it a POE, fine. But to make it a focal point of the game is counterproductive.
  22. See post #16 What's your point? That's a legal windup position. I think we all can agree on that. I'm also saying winding up with the free foot in front of the rubber is picking boogers in FED. (It's legal in OBR). Again we all agree. What I'm asking you is do you think if a pitcher stretches and comes set with his feet in the position of post 8, what do you have? I have a balk. I have post #16
  23. See post #16
  24. Keeping track of the batting order isn't our job, until it is, if you know what I mean. So if a coach tells me he's substituting A for B, I need to know that it's a legitimate substitution. This almost never happens at the higher levels, but is a staple of MS/Frosh/JV ball. I've been through it, so I know. And when it does happen at upper levels, it's kind of obvious. This falls under "game management" and should never happen to an experienced umpire. That's not to say it won't happen to ME. It shouldn't happen to a better umpire than me.
  25. Perpendicular is whatever you want it to mean. This is a giant exercise is booger picking.
