1. Can't stand combo pants. They look like plate pants on the bases. So, no. Spend the little extra money and get the poly wools from Honigs. Much better than the ones from Smitty and will last a long time. It will probably cost you a game fee for the difference. Remember, this is an investment. Spend your money wisely. I've seen people go cheap and it doesn't look good. They get cheap shirts from somewhere, thinking they got a bargain, and the shirts don't match any other's colors. Look the part. Show pride in your uniforms. Not a good answer. One plate, one base. Smitty shirts are good right? They don't cost much but i like the 2 i have, they do match most colors well right? I have a Smitty shirt and I much prefer the Honig's shirts to the Smitty's. If you can, I suggest waiting until the black Friday deals and stocking up on Honig's shirts and Polywools, trust me you will not regret it, even if it hurts the bank.
2. I'm surprised a reputable "higher level assigner" would advise an umpire that he just needs to get Kmart pants. If you can afford investing in a pair of Honig's polywool pants than I would highly suggest investing in a pair of base and plates. I take pride in my appearance and by wearing a pressed, clean, fitted uniform I gain credibility right off the bat.
3. If you want to umpire in shorts go do a slow pitch softball game. Suck it up and wear the proper uniform; you would be better off wearing a balloon and some polywools than looking like a dork umpiring in shorts. If you are really that hot behind the plate than there are plenty of threads here that will give you great ideas to stay cool. And if you still are too hot for your comfort than I suppose you could always call it from behind the mound and you'll probably be much safer at the 10U rec level....
4. Follow the chart but if your a tweener than I would suggest sizing up. I've got the 18.5's and they are larger than I need but they provide me with ample protection. The only foreseeable con to sizing up would be that your pants may get stuck but thats not a big deal if you wear polywools, like I know good cuban umpires do. The shins will fit great, even if they are large on you. Throw in the UE CP with your order, for $150 its a great bargain for a top notch chest protector. If you don't like it, you can send it my way and I'll beable to get a friend to buy it from you and you won't have to worry about losing any money.
5. You neglected to include the part that Ron was also sitting behind home and didn't move an inch while his BU went out.
6. I do up to 18U ASA, USSSA, HS Varsity, and show case tournaments in softball, I wear the same gear that I do in baseball: Rawlings TI Mask with TW pads, Unequal CP, and Bauer shins. My only modification to this is that I wear the Bauers in softball and Unequal shins in baseball. We have guys that only wear masks or go without shins or chest protectors, they're nuts!
7. Trust me after working with Rolando his ticker may stop, Rolando's just that bad.

Bye-Bye

Oh Rolando, I knew you were bad but not bad enough that you have to eject coaches only one batter into the game.
9. http://m.mlb.com/video/v34151309 Anyone got anything here?
10. Polywools only come in charcoal.
11. I contacted TW and they said its $129.95 plus shipping, a 30 day turnaround, and they can't accept custom orders at this time which is a bummer because I need another couple inches on my Gold for it to fully cover my ribs. @Bill Slope How'd you get them to do a custom job for you if they aren't accepting custom orders now?
12. I think I'm going to get my WV Gold retrofitted, after all its sitting in my closet thanks to my UE so if I don't like it I can always sell it.
13. The pro guys have access to free WV gear and MLB will pay for their TW retros, why spend $$$ when you get get something absolutely free. I would imagine some MiLB guys have an Unequal but its hard to verify.
14. @Bill Slope What were the costs for that? It looks great and I may want to send in my gold. Anyway you could get a photo of you wearing it with a shirt on, I'd love to see how low profile it is compared to my Unequal.
15. May the reason you did not experience any pain be due to the lack of male anatomy? Are the only balls you have in your ball bag? Glad your alright boss.
16. I called them the other day and All-Star was out of stock on the harness as well so I'm not sure what to do @Majordave Did you ask them if they were going to be getting more? An alternative could be the catchers model but from what I've heard its not as good as the umpire model.
17. Or the fact that the PU is one very large dude, I highly doubt he will be able to cover third base as the PU in a 2 man system.
18. I love mine, I've worn it for 11 months now. The only changes I've made was adding velcro so my rite temp pad wouldn't slip, the allstar delta flex harness which has been on it since I've owned the CP that I took from my WVG but I did make it as tight as it can go for the rite temp pads, I removed the removable collarbone pad so that I would have the main "plate" of the CP protecting my collar bone.
19. I am 6'0 and got the 18.5's. Perhaps the only negative thing about sizing up in these is there is a greater chance that your pants get caught on the top of the shins. It doesn't happen often but it happens. I love the UE CP & shins.
20. I used to wear two, now I only wear one, mainly so that I can rotate my 3 dry lo's so they don't fade as quickly. I can fit 4 baseballs easy, if I need more a simple shout to the HC and I should be-able to get replenished.
21. Here's the latest: "Call every pitch like it's 3-0." Amen! Words to live by right there.
22.
You are willing to risk what? Great Caesar's ghost I hope you're kiddingi agree with @sdix
It's all about the look!
Nothing surprises me coming from you Rolando lol
When your as big as Rolando, every 1/4 inch counts.
23. I know a couple of guys in my HS association use it and love it.
24. Plenty down here, there are roughly 10 umpires in my HS association that have handicap stickers and they probably shouldn't be allowed on the field.
25. In more ways than one... What's up with 3 crew chiefs on the diamond? Layne, West, and Culbreth? Anybody know? Did you read the UEFL article? It stated they may be there for the Boston/New York series this weekend. The video going over the ground rules was pretty cool, even though we do a plate meeting every game, seeing it done in the show is pretty neat.
