Let the little league umpires have fun, they have video replay to correct them. So dance all night my LLWS umpire friends!

How much was the mask on sale for?
-
They just used it in the first game, the Washington coach appealed a play at homeplate which was called out and was correct. This whole tournament is going to be interesting with intstant replay being used on any call.
-
Its unfortionate that my order # is 7769 and I ordered yesterday, I might just be able with a little luck to get that pack of pencils rather than all the other equipment I ordered. It really sucks to go on vacation right as a huge sale is happening, and just my luck. ;)

My bad, I ment safe and typed out. He was safe and was called badly called out. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

The whole game is on espn3, but I dont remember when the play at the plate occured. http://espn.go.com/espn3/player?id=28583&league=LLWS&size=condensed Edit: Play at home happened at 29:10.
-
Not yet but I found the second one you were talking about.
-
I was watching that game and saw both plays, the one at home plate was close but in the replay it showed he was safe and even with the replay the espn announcers were saying it was a close play. With U1 banging BR out at 1st as the ball sails over F3's head gave me a well needed laugh.
-
For the last 2 games I did I have had 2 close plays on throw downs at second and I feel like even though they were very very very close I blew them, called them safe both times. It started when I was in B for a throw down and almost got drilled in the head with a ball from a throw down to second and now I keep my eyes on the ball the whole time and am calling guys safe when I feel they are out after the play but very closely. Other wise I feel great with my calls and have no second guesses even though these last two tournament games have had many close calls. What is the proper mechanic for throw down's to second while in B?

Yes, but for my size I have to wait untill late august to get a polo blue. :question1:

Thanks for the code I just picked up a nice shirt and hexpad umpire pants and saved a nice bit of money.

the use of the major league Baseball shirt black
T-Rav replied to umpire08's topic in Umpire Equipment
Yeah they are used, at least around here. If my partner has any of my favorite shirts like black or polo blue we use them and never heard a peep out of anyone about them. -
The cutie behind in the stands behind home plate. :HS
-
What brand were your partners shirts?
-
The only thing I will buy from TOC is weird umpire items, like pink ball bags and shirts which I will wear every time I umpire little league softball games with my brand new 3 inches to big TOC polywool plate pants only for $20. :HS

Of course I'm taking it to a alteration shop, I may be dumb enough to burn a hole in pants with a iron but I am surely not dumb enough to ruin $100 worth of pants. Thanks for your answers, you saved me from looking like the dweeb umpire. :D
-
Just received my new base and plate pants today and I need some help as my tailoring ability is nill. So far I have had 2 pairs of combos, the first I ripped some how and the second has a hole in it from a iron. After talking with some fellow umpires I was recommended to get something called a "baste stitch" since I can lengthen them in the future if I get new gear. How should I get my pants altered and how long should they be when I am not in my plate stance? Should they be just touching the ground or a inch or so above the ground?

The association wants charcoal grey when I only have heather grey, fine I'll give them charcoal grey in about a hour in this heat and it was well worth the two dollar bottle of water investment to look "professional". :TD:

Specially designed hand protectors for umpires and no coach these brass knuckles are only for when you don't like my strike zone. Those lobster leg guards will be great with my red shirt and I can keep my partner amused the whole game, a two for one special. :TD:

I have them, took a direct shot from the pitcher in a 12u travel tournament this past weekend and it hurt for about 10-15 seconds and I first thought it completely missed the shinguard for some reason but it didn't it hit dead center and I was completely back to normal after 30 seconds, that was the only slightly painful experience in these and wanted to kill the catcher for completely missing that inside low ball that didn't even bounce. Also I have taken about 10 bats to the shinguard's this season and never really felt the bats so they did their job, now if only we could get catchers to do their job. On these shinguard's how are you supposed to wear them? Both buckles inside? I never quite figured out how to properly wear them. :rock

I use the Dry-Lo's and they work great, like a ball bag should. My experience with very ball bags isn't extensive since I've only used a honig's ball bag before that a veteran umpire game to me on my first plate game. Here in Florida there's allot of rain and humidity so it didn't hurt to get the Dry-Lo, but I never encountered any problem with my Honig's ball bag and I only purchased a Dry-Lo was because they looked cool and I liked the feel of the material. My rating of the Dry-Lo's has be excellent except I have had to bring out the scissors on several occasions since occasionally there would be some strings that are showing or hanging out. In fact I just went to honigs today and purchased another Navy Dry-Lo and the guy asked me what color I wanted but I said navy, but it appears on there website that they our out of stock for the black one for the 2010 season, I saw that the jim evans store sells them and they probably are sold at other stores but these ball bags have been pretty good to me and I have had no problems with them and I deal with rain on a regular basis and the heat and I have never had damp baseballs. They fit 3 softballs which I wouldn't recommend because I tried that in one bag and it was overly stuffed but manageable, and that prompted me to get another one so now I am the proud owner of 2 navy's and 1 black. :hi5:

My LL district UIC says we cant eject for jewelry after warnings, all we can do is tell them to take it off. But 2 out of the 5 leagues in the district eject for it even though he emphasizes that they could protest and win, they are the biggest anyways and have about 10 teams in each division and use paid umpires - can't blame them though because we don't even have 10 volunteers at our park. :ranton:
-
You guys eject for a coach coming out with a rulebook? I have had this happen to me several times as a young little league volunteer umpire in the juniors division, all of the coaches who have done it were all ejection worthy for other comments. I don't know about your leagues but in my league there are so many rulebooks brought on the field and to the umpires, that they should just be glued to the umps face and every player should have one in their back pocket. :D

Honigs has 2010 OBR for $10, but their $9.99 ground shipping might not be the best if that's all you are buying.
