Maybe he was. Hard to say for sure from that angle. Catcher was reaching to the inside for the pitch.

I think he might be in the slot. His head appears to be directly over the catcher who looks like he is set up inside. By looking at the catchers feet in relation to the batters box, I think he might be on the inside corner.

Depends on the ruleset. OBR (MLB) is illegal and a balk. Fed (High School) and NCAA (I believe) still allow this.

F-bombs on the field for 9U and 10U? Under the breath and not directed at me I would warn. If it's loud and I know who said it, they are gone. If I'm not sure it was said or who said it, I would still warn.

I agree with what others said here. I verbalize the close ones but usually only loud enough for the catcher to know. The hand movements should not be done.

I had a discussion about this type of play with a current ML umpire. His statement was that if he is running with his right foot inside the lane and the left foot outside the lane, RLI will be determined by which foot he is on when the ball hits him. If he is on his right foot, no interference, left foot, interference and he is out. FWIW!

This! At the very least, at the point U1 was getting involved with the 2 players, that is when I would have gotten the coaches together and told them to control their teams and this is a warning to both. Any further instances will result in ejections.

If BU does not go out, he has BR all the way and PU has catch/no catch.

Ok. I mis-read the OP but others have answered!

Why would you not have an out in 2? If he made a move towards second, which he did if he's running that way, and he is tagged off a base, he is out.

At least they were half right. It was a balk!

Please don't talk to parents, ever. But if you decide to talk to parents, don't talk to them after a situation happens. Nothing good can come out of it. But good ejection.

A couple of years ago, I had bases loaded with one out. Batter hits a dying quail over F5 who is retreating, turning left, turning right, turning left and never got under it. Ball hits the ground and F5 throws to 3B to force F2 (never tagged the runner). Run scores and now runners are at first and second. Defensive coach comes out and wants IFF. Too bad I did not think quick enough. "IFF?? You're right. Batter who is on first is out. R1 stays at 2B and R2 stays at 3B. Run still scores". Now we have R2 and R3 instead of R1 and R2.

I agree. However, I have called this one time. It was a summer "select" game at a field that the batter's box was a sand box, not that it mattered. The batters obviously took a little longer to get set. The pitcher started to pitched and I killed it. Immediately the coach says "He can pitch anytime he wants if the batter is in the box". "Coach, no, he must make sure the batter is ready". This did not go over well with the coach or the parents. After stopping the pitcher from quick pitching a couple more times, I warned him the next time he did it, I was calling an illegal pitch. Sure enough, with runners on base he did it again. I balked him. Coach decided he did not want to stay so I sent him to the parking lot and the game continued without any further issues.

What ruleset?

I use a rubber band. Left wrist for no outs. Left hand for one out. right hand or wrist for 2 outs. This allows me to know the outs just by feeling where it is and it is not noticeable at all. Learned it from a guy who also does football.
