  1. Directly to the glove or hand is the NFHS rule. MLB (OBR) is directly to the catcher. MLB changed it a couple of years ago. Not sure about NCAA but someone on here can answer that.
  2. Did you find a team? I'll be there next week (#8).
  3. Throws not from the pitching plate are always 2 bases, either from time of pitch or time of throw. In baseball, he gets 3B. I don't know about softball.
  4. Hope this works. Play starts at 0:45 but there is also a close play at 1B where Eddings has great position to see a pulled foot before that.
  5. Miller had a play at the plate Monday in Texas. Ended up in front of home plate to see the tag. Great positioning.
  6. I know him. Done several camps where he is an instructor. Great Guy! He calls it over-angling. I've tried it and really like it. Don't use it often because the powers that be don't care for it. If you get the opportunity to try it, I would recommend it to see how you personally like it. He says he has never had a call at first overturned by using this method.
  7. Watch your email. A little birdie told me TASO will be coming out with a ruling on how to treat the situation when NOSCAE baseballs are not available.
  8. And here is Ted Barrett talking about it last year on this video I stumbled across. The question about this starts about the 9:27 mark.
  9. Well, our chapter inquired about the answer. Then he changed tunes on the reason. He went with what a few on here have said and judging it as Malacious Contact making the batter-runner out before reaching first. We still disagree with him. Fortunately, there are no Protests allowed in Texas. So, like you, I will go with A too. I'm been fortunate so far in not having this issue, come close a few times, but never anything requiring mass ejections.
  10. Thoughts?? PLAY: The game is 3-4 in favor of the visiting team in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and bases loaded. The batter takes ball four and heads for first base as his team celebrates in the dugout that the game is now tied. A few steps toward first from home plate, the batter pops off to the pitcher with some words like "too scared to pitch to me, huh?" Not exactly what was said, but you get the drift. The pitcher, already not in a good frame of mind, says something equally derisively back, and then both players run at each other, arms and fists wailing away. The coaches come out and help get the two apart and fortunately, the other players had not really moved. It all happened too fast. We know both players are ejected. But now what? a. Eject both players, replace the batter-runner with another player and score the run, tying the game. b. Issue a warning, leave everyone in the game which his now tied. c. Eject both players; call the batter-runner out but allow the run to score. Tied ball game. d. Eject both players and call the batter-runner out. Disallow the run. Game over and the visitors win.
  11. My writing skills are one of several reasons I don't post much. I leave it to others who are so much better than me! It is a very good article though!
  12. Sorry. I figured it out! Didn't mean to sound like i was being a dick. my apologies.
  13. https://theathletic.com/2115097/2020/10/12/rosenthal-an-umpire-the-son-he-lost-and-the-memorabilia-that-binds-them/ Figure it out!! It is a subscription website.
  14. For those with a subscription to the Athletic, check out Ken Rosenthal's story on John Hirschbeck. Very touching.
  15. Not exactly. If the lineup goes from 9 to 10 as you have stated, and then the DH is removed for whatever reason, the DH position is burned and you are back to 9. So if you use an eligible sub to hit or run for the DH, the original DH and current defensive player have been removed. This is different than the old DH rule where you could run or hit for the DH and that sub assumes the DH position.
  16. Aug. 31, TEX-SEA, T9. Missed squeeze R3 caught off 3rd, it appeared he tried to interfere with the throw.
  17. No relation between these 2 Barrett's. Lance is a great guy. He is from my area and has been an instructor at a couple of camps I have done. He is 6'5".
  18. Agree with miles. Expenses, for me, mainly tolls. Also a way to mark when you have been paid for it.
  19. @yawetag Next time I visit our Chester plant, I'll buy you a beverage! I usually stay in Fort Mill.
  20. Let's see if this works. If not, go to YouTube and search for it.
  21. Careful using the TASO mechanic. UIL wants FED mechanics to be used. They were not aware TASO was using their own until this past September, and were not very happy about it.
  22. OK, thanks!. I was just trying to get something authoritative to take back to the chapter. They are is trying to get an answer from FED.
  23. I'm not doubting you but who has stated to follow the new case play? TASO State Interpreter?
  24. *2.9.1 SITUATION D: B1 hits a two hopper back to the pitcher. F1 gloves the batted ball but cannot get the ball out of his glove. He quickly removes the glove with ball that is securely stuck inside the webbing of the glove and shovels the glove to the first baseman who is in contact with first base. The first baseman catches the glove with the ball in it, just before B1 touches first base. Is B1 out? RULING: B1 is out, because F3 had secure possession of the glove and ball. 5.1.1 SITUATION Q: A line drive rips the glove from the pitcher's hand. The pitcher retrieves the glove, which contains the ball, and throws the glove and ball to the first baseman. RULING: Illegal. A fair-batted ball is dead immediately when it becomes lodged in player equipment. 2.9.1 Situation D is a new Case Play this year, it was not in 2018's book. Thoughts?
